Just got back from a nice ride on a beautiful October day and filled up the tank on my 08 Vision.
To my surprise on start up , I noticed the fuel gauge only went up to the half way mark.
Has anyone experienced this ?

Every time I fuel up! the crossover vent from left to right sides of the tanks is about the size of a coffee stirrer that's my major gripe, it takes too long to top off the tanks, and you pass that time by answering questions about the bike to the folks who gather round. We also have the dreaded Kahleeforneeah accordion nozzles around here that were not designed with filling up a motorcycle as any part of the design process, so you get to hold the stupid 'vapor trapper' up so the nozzle will operate and come away with damp, fuel smelly gloves or fingers if you take a glove off.
-some people need a flag made for them, but how do you show ignorance rampant on a field of stupidity?

My crossover tube is approx 5/8" ID. It's plenty big. I have heard others say the crossover tube is small. Did Victory change sizes somewhere along the way?

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to fill it up. Leave it on the sidestand and trickle the gas in? Rock it back and forth while filling it up?

I just feel mine up at half of the pumps ability. Instead of squeezing it all the way I squeeze it half way. And I have no issues at all getting a full tank of gas

Same here my 08 took a full tank with no problem.

The 2011 burps a little but it to fills up to just under the neck no problem.
and I to only squeeze the fill handle half way

My hardest part is getting the tank to take the last 3/4 of a gallon to FULL one tablespoon @ a time while the left tank half tries to push the remaining air out uphill (and under the fuel in that half to the vent line) against the mostly full right side half and belch it out past the filler nozzle and incoming fuel, and I do fuel @ around half volume of the gas pumps output ability, and it makes no diference if I rock the bike, wiggle it with the floorboard, or run around the fuel island with my hair on fire, when I'm on the road I expect to be on the road not hanging out in the local ARCO spoon feeding the fuel system. It seems to me that if the cartoonists in engineering had put a
Tee'd in high mounted but smaller branch vent that came up to the top of the left tank into whats called the ullage area, the tank would fill quicker and without all the rocking and bumping and floorshow and giving that air someplace to escape. A good example would be to take a plastic container and plunge it into the kitchen sink opening end down and see how much air gets trapped in the upper end now figure how to get it out.

To lurch back to the original question, mine does that. It started about 6 months ago. I can fuel all the way to the top and the guage won't go past 2/3. I'll ride for about a hundred miles and it will start reading down.

Stealer sez it might be a bad float or possibly a bad sender unit, which he said also includes the fuel pump. Estimated something like $400-$500. I told him I'd live with it for a while.

I've got my old one from where I got it replaced, I'll look at it to see if there is something that might help it along. I think it is a lever like float like you find in your toilet and an arm that rides against the sensor that sends the signal to the gauge.

Hopefully it's an easy fix. I put a capful of Seafoam in my scoot with every fill, to keep things from varnishing up during periods of disuse, like when it rains 5 months straight, and that seems to work. In PA, you may have some periods similar to that, except your rain may differ, and be more solid. A bigger dose of Seafoam may loosen things up over time, too. I take a spoonful every night, and sure enough, I'm also loose, come morning...I'd keep it away from your womenfolk, though.

It certainly takes that last 1/4 tank slow but I can get it all the way to the top. My gauge is dead accurate. When this thing says I'm on reserve I'd best go looking for a gas station because it never lies.

My 2011 fuel guage lies , it likes 3/4 full it seems to say that most of the time. The guage on my 2008 was very accurate.

I just barely pull the pump handle and yes it takes a little long but I have more time then money. After all I don't have to be back to work for sixteen hours.
I found if I go really slow I can get to the neck the same time every time so when I check millage I know I'm filling it up the same every time.
268 miles on a tank not bad I think.

Are we still talking fuel here? ... or laxatives?

my concern of putting any additive in there, or running the tank low may have its play on the bladder part of the pump. My fuel pump failed at around 56,000, but the gauged work well. The new pump gage sticks when it gets below 1/4 of a tank and I park it. Therefore I keep it full now, but I digressed. I used seafoam with the first pump as well, and ran it to the light many time to stretch out gas stops, but I feel my acts contributed to the early failure of an already flawed system. Better for me though, and I no longer use seafoam or run below a 1/4 of a tank unless positively unable to avoid it.

By the way, I thought the OP was talking about sticky fuel gauges, if it doesn't rise about the half mark when it is full, maybe it's time to replace the unit, or rely on Kentucky windage.

I had to replace my whole unit - you can't just replace the float. Fortunately, mine was under warranty.

Mine has started screwing up, I noticed after a fill up it went to 3\4 a tank and the next fill up it went to 1\2 and now only goes to about 1\4 of a tank after filling up. If it's 400-500 for the parts to fix then I'll live with it but I'm also noticing my fuel mileage decreasing, any way the fuel gauge sending unit has something to do with the fuel mixture?

I bought the bike 6 months ago and was hitting around 40mpg most fill ups and it seemed to slip to around 37mpg the past few months but now that the gauge is screwing up I just got 33.25mpg on the last tank and ran the bike out of fuel because I was going off my mileage since the guage is messed up and figuring mileage based off of 37mpg. The last fill up I put in 6.3 gallons. Either the pump's calibration was off or the 6 gal tank holds a little extra and my fuel mileage sucks.

Any ideas on the decreased mileage, cold weather, O2 sensor or something else?

My mileage always goes down to around 35 in the winter. In the summer it's 40~45.

As far as the gauge, my '08 has always been accurate. And when the low fuel indicator comes on, I can go at least 50 miles more (I have done it twice).

I've always filled it slowly and last time tried leaving the ignition on when filling up but the guage is fubard I guess. No doubt the tank got full when I put in 6.3 gallons. I coasted in to the gas station after having it cut off about a mile before the gas station, I shook it and leaned to the right and it started and got me to the pump.

Anyone have a picture of the level sensor unit that's in the tank? Anyone tried repairing these or know the cause for them going out?
