okoay... those of you who know me should know first that I ride year-round. I'm not varyder-type crazy... I'll leave the bike in the garage if there is a reasonable expectation that there is ice, but I manage to ride almost every day.

That being said, I was off work for the Prresident's Day holiday with no wife nor kids at home.... BIKE RIDE! As far as I can tell... only one other motorcyclist had the same idea. That's the problem.

With the weather we've had this past 6 weeks or so, I'm the only bike I've seen for some time. This bundled up guy surprised me. All of a sudden, he was right there, in the opposite lane of traffic, with his hand out in welcome. I had to hurry to reply.

That's the skill I've lost... I no longer look out for other bikes on the road or wave to them. I'd almost forgotten that other people actually have motorcycles, it's been so long since I've seen one on the road with me.

I feel like the hermit who forgot how to speak.

We get away from that here in the winter by waving from our snowmobiles and pickup trucks.

TW I got me a wrangler this past fall, right now it is broke though. But the few days I did drive it around I found I was waving more than I did with the bike.

Of course, a jeep is a jeep, well for CJ/Wrangler folks, so don't expect waves if you drive a cherokee or liberty as in the jeep world that is like riding a Victory.

Trailbarge, I am right there with you. That is why I HAVE to go to bikeweek. I can't take it and as soon as my kids are a little older (6 yrs from now), I am moving south. In Akron / Canton, we broke a record of the snowiest February on record and it is really taking its toll on me.

I feel your pain, bro. I grew up in Erie, PA and only moved down here about 2 1/2 years ago. My parents still live there and my sister lives in Akron, so I get weekly updates about the weather up there.

NWPA, Lake Erie, and the whole tri-stste region are really beautiful... about 4 months of the year. Then it is a slushy mess. You know what they say about the 4 seasons of the lake effect belt... almost winter, winter, still winter... and construction.

I think I'm hitting Bike Week Mar 4-6.

Beautiful, cloudless, 53-degree F day here today.
Probably exchanged 25 waves on a 65-mile ride in and around Yakima. The nice day brought 'em out in droves!

The only guy that didn't wave was on a scooter... He just looked confused. ;-)
