San Antonio, TX | After almost 14,000 miles I finally addressed an issue that has been bugging me from day 1.
The rear floor boards and the risers for the rear floorboards felt loose.
Many posts here have discussed that if split ring on the rear floor boards breaks, the pin that hold on the rear floor board will fall out and the rear floor board will fall off.
So when I installed my chrome rear tipover covers, I decided to replace the pins with stainless bolts and nylon lock nuts. I also replaced the M6 x 50mm bolts that let the risers flop around.
At Home Depot I bought two 5/16" by 2 1/2" stainless steel bolts for the floor boards, two 5/16" by 2" stainless steel bolts for the risers, four 5/16" nylon lock nuts, and eight 5/16" lock washers.
I had to tap the 5/16" by 2" stainless steel bolts for the risers with a small hammer to get them in place. The risers no longer flopped around after that.
Then I installed the 5/16" by 2 1/2" stainless steel bolts for the floor boards.
They still flop around some but not near as bad as they did before. At least now I do not have to worry that the split ring will break and the floorboard fall off.

| Reverse the pin and insert the clip and it will never break again. To tighten the floorboards all you have to do is stretch the spring which will apply more pressure to the floorboards. |

This maybe true....but I like the bolts.
The riser blocks flopping is due to the small diameter of the M6 bolt. With the 5/16" x 2" stainless bolt in the block, the risers are solid to the rear tipovers.

Apopka, FL | I'm confused, the passenger floorboards I understand. I will make that change tomorrow because I am missing one clip. Where I'm confused is, what are the "risers" you are talking about? My passenger floorboards are bolted through a bracket which is a solid part of the rear tip-over. Second question, what springs are you talking about? the ones for the driver (front) floorboards? |
