San Antonio, TX | Riding to the ROT Rally yesterday I felt the floorboard twist under my foot with doing 70 on IH 35. Looking down I could see that something was very wrong.
I signaled to my friend riding his Ultra behind me that I was pulling over.
When I got to the side of the access road I looked under the floorboard and noticed that the pin that holds on the floorboard was installed from back to front and had slipped back about an inch. The cotter pin was missing.
First I tapped the pin all the way back in place.
Then, I scrounged a steel stranded wire from a blown tire belt off the shoulder of the road and fed it through the hole in the pin. I tied off the wire and went to ROT.
On the way home I stopped by the dealer to mention that the pin should have been installed from front to back and that the cotter pin should almost never go missing. This floor board was replaced in December.
A month ago a part they replaced in December had loose screws.
I told him that I should be bringing it in for a maintenance run next month and I would want that pin installed correctly (All new bikes have the pin installed Front to Back) and all of the December work re-checked. He agreed and regretted that I had an issue.
Today I replaced the steel wire with a cotter pin.

Apopka, FL | Upon the recommendation of several here, I checked my C clips on my passenger floorboards. Sure enough, one clip was missing. The groove on the pin for the clip looks too shallow. A dremel could deepen the channel. What have some of you done to remedy this potential problem? I think a cotter pin, while effective, is UGLY! What is a better solution; a SS bolt & nylon lock nut? |

Apopka, FL | I'm confused, the passenger floorboards I understand. I will make that change tomorrow because I am missing one clip. Where I'm confused is, what are the "risers" you are talking about? My passenger floorboards are bolted through a bracket which is a solid part of the rear tip-over. Second question, what springs are you talking about stretching to tighten riser flopping? the ones for the driver (front) floorboards? |

New Brunswick , Canada | I think the "risers" you are talking about are for the passenger floorboards.
They are used to raise the passenger floarboard by 1.5" to 2" inches.
Had to install some on my Vision cause my Co-Pilot is short legged...Made good diffrence in her comfort on long Trips.. |
