Anybody done any temp readings on the seat or the handgrips?

Seemed like my seats would get hot, then they would cool down and maybe on again, then just quit. So I did some temp readings on high. The seat gets to around heats up initially to around 83 degrees and then cools down to around 78 degrees and hangs out there for over 20 minutes.
Kinda disappointed, sometimes it warms right up and your going oooohhhh now thats warm, but then it cools back off. It never stays hot.

So, I ordered a new seat and took a few heat readings off of it and it seems to do the same thing. Looking at the schematics, there is only a resistance reading, not a timer or anything, so don't understand what it is doing. Anyone know? Been like this since I bought it.

The hand grips get up to around 110 degrees.

i never know that I have a problem until I read this forum. Having scooted around above the 36 parallel in teens and single digits it don't matter how warm or cold the seat gets, it is up to how you dress. If you don't dress right for the ocassion, the tush gets warm like standing by the fire and the rest is shivering.

Butt - mine does the same thing. It gets a blast of heat, cools off, warms up and then at crazy intervals will warm up. I've noticed for some reason it seems to warm up after a stop at a light or something like that, then it goes back to the routine. I wonder what is the process....

Mine does the same thing,....Just ASSSUMED that there was a thermostat in the circuit...Don't know though!

Po, I can't say anything about the temps you're getting, but I know that the seats and the grips cycle hot - cold - hot. That's normal.

Something similar to what you describe, except I've been unable to pinpoint when it does occur. It barely gets above 78 degrees on the seat whether on high or low. I don't see a thermostat in the circuit, just a resistor, allowing more or less current through, which is more or less heat. The resistance readings are very close to what the book calls for. Seems it would work just like a car heat seater. Turn it on and it is the same heat, till you change the setting. Whereas this doesn't. Very strange. I brought my infrared thermometer (one of the coolest gadgets I've ever bought) to test out the seats on the 2009 sitting on the showroom floor.

Mine seems to be more consistent on low.  The cycles seem farther between on high and not that much warmer.  Probably just my imagination since I need the heat more if I go to high.  Next time out I'll watch the voltage meter and see if I notice a drop during cycles.  The 4" of foam in the seat is definitely giving the heating elements a tough go.  I've never worn chaps but it seems like the best combo for a really cold day would be lined chaps (mostly for my thighs) over street pants (to maximize seat heat).

I've only used the high setting on the grips twice in two years.  Those suckers get toasty.

Very likely there is a high-limit somewhere in the heater circuit, probably inside the seat itself next to the elements. You definitely don't want the thing to heat up to the point that the vinyl melts to your butt, or bursts into flames. Almost all resistance heaters use something similar to keep the upper temperature level from becoming dangerous. It will obviously cycle more noticeably on the "High" setting.
