From page 3.43 of the service manual, it looks like you take almost everything off the back of the bike then remove two bolts from the frame under the seat and the nuts off of the swing arm. Looks like it is at least a half a day job.

If you don't have the service manual, there used to be a link on this site somewhere so you could download it.

I know that everybody's bike is their own, but why? Unless it is to remove, paint or whatever, and reinstall. They have saved me countless dollars. Wish more bikes had them. IMHO.

I was going to say, taking off the rear top is one of the more easier things to do. That'll probably the next thing I'll remove since the wife doesn't ride with me anymore and I don't drop my bike, not much use for them to me. I'm going to start working on my solo seat soon to.
