Ok...I've read every thread on wiring for a trailer harness I can find here and am still stumped.
I have a Harbor Freight trailer that I switched out the originals for the LED light set. I bought a Tow Ready Taillight converter 3-2 with a 4 flat connector to mate up with the trailer harness.
I connected the wires from the unit to the correct wires in the bikes harness and grounded the unit. When I connected to the trailer, all I got was running lights and bright tail lights. No brake or turn although all lights functioned on the bike. I turned it off, double checked all my wiring connections, turned back on the key and the same.
I don't get how something that appears so straight forward can go so wrong....but then I get wrenches nuts and bolts...electrons are definitely not my specialty...

All help and questions are appreciated.

I can't help.......but am gonna keep an eye on this thread as I'd like to install a trailer harness for later use, but also would like to tie in soon to be installed trunk LED's (3 strips for separate brake and turn signals).

Was the harness you purchased "plug-n-play" or did it require some splicing?  Which did you buy?

There is very little that is "straight forward" about a Vision electrical system. If you have an '08 schematic I suggest you look at it, if not, get one. Before you continue with your experiments. There is no flasher on an '08 Vision, it is done in the autocancel module. If you fry it, it is $240.00. Also, for the same reason, I would suggest you use a trailer isolation module to protect the bike's electrical system from any 'trailer mishaps'.

Gary - is there one that you'd recommend...possibly that would plug right into your creation? I have your sequential harness and you answered a few of my questions about adding LED's to the back and the front of the Vision. For safety I think it would be best to use this...tap the LED's into the trailer harness vs your OEM replacement harness, right?? As an added benefit, having that already installed would allow to make the trailer purchase whenever I want....electrical is already setup!! Is my logic reasonable or off in left field.... I'm a numbers guy not an electrician, LOL.

I have nothing specific that I can recommend because I haven't had the need to use one. There are people here that have used one, so I'll leave that for them. But as an example to what I am referring; http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Tow-Ready/119176.html

As far as LEDs, you can go directly to the trailer tap on my harness, if you later want to add a trailer just tie it into the trailer tap in parallel to the LED hookup.

Ok...confession time...I ended up using a tow ready harness with independent power from the battery...119189..I think.
Turns out I had a short in the trailer harness....funny how that'll screw things up.....so all is well damn those led lights are bright.
Thanks for the advice....operator error and good troubleshooting works most times!
