Last week I rode my 09 Vision by the Harley dealer and decided to stop to see the new 2011 103ci road glide ultra, I have been reading a few magazine articles proclaiming the Harley 103ci touring bikes greatly improved with the new cast and forged frames plus the extra power of the 103 ci motor. The sales lady insisted that I take the road glide out for a test drive,I told her I didn't really want to take a 2 to 5 mile test ride (as that is what they use to let you ride at the most)She said the bike is full of gas we close at 5 be back by then.So I ride off on the road glide ultra with 2 mile's on the odometer.I returned about 2 hours later with 84 miles on the clock and a opinion on the new ultra road glide. Here it is : I was pleasantly surprised, the new frame and 103 ci motor are much better than the old 88 ci welded framed bikes I used to ride. The ultra RG did not have near the weather or wind protection of my Vision and I kept reaching for the (not available) power windshield switch. The ultra RG still SHAKES like a paint shaker at idle but really smooth's out around 2100 rpm all the way to the rev limiter. The 103 ci pulls hard right off idle maybe as good as a stock Vision for the first 500-1000 rpm but it never felt like it pulled any harder and as it approached the 3500 to 4000 rpm mark it was running out of breath. My seat of the pants call:While it will not beat a stock Vision it will no longer be totally humiliated like the 88ci and even 96ci motors are.I saw an indicated top speed of 110mph in 5th and 105mph in 6th.(I was riding on a closed course of course For comparison the last stock 07 96 ci ultra I rode could only manage an indicated top speed of 96 mph.The wind buffeting started around 65 mph and by 80 mph was trying to blow my sunglasses off(where is that power w/s switch ) and I had to lean forward and duck below the windshield that the top of was just below my nose. The bike was rock steady at highway speeds and didn't suffer too badly from big truck buffeting.I exited the freeway and then begin to ride on some curvy roads and was again surprised at how much better it takes the twisties than the old welded frame ultra I rode. I did scrape the floorboards a few times but never had the feeling it was going to wad up,I don't believe it can corner with the Vision but again it will not be totally humiliated. In my opinion the new 103ci ultra RG is much improved over the previous Harley's but still falls short in comparison to my 2 year old Vision with over 30 thousand miles on it.If it absolutely positively has to be a Harley it's a good riding bike that your are paying a considerable entry price for.But in my opinion if you are looking for the best riding handling and performing motorcycle at the best price then there is still only one choice .The Victory Vision is still the all around world champion touring motorcycle. It just does everything better than the Harley for around $3000.00 dollars less.(These are actual price quote's not msrp on both new bikes)Let's see I can add cams, pipes dyno tune and still buy my wife a cup holder for her Vision with the money I saved on my Vision.

The RoadGlide would be improved with an electric adjustable windshield that's for sure. Two things you can't do for it though, make it a mono shock frame or physically make the seating position and floorboard area longer. The Vision has that in the shade over the RG's and EG's..............

H-D was going to get ride of the road glide. The road glide was going to get a new design and that Italian 4 cylinder motor. Now that was all rumors that every dealer new about. But harley started running into money problems and sold off the Italian motor back to the owners.
The road glide has to be the beats touring bike they have to offer.
Harley has so many lawsuits against then for high speed wobbles in the last fifteen years. Where riders have died cause of it. That was all on the Electra Glide model. Now with the new frame and a larger wider support on the bottom of the fram along with the top motor mount being moved there hoping there problem is solved. Time will tell.
I owned three road glides and would put on about seventeen thousand a year. Now I have a Vision and put a new tire on every year and after a long trip I am ready to ride the next day. I never could say that with any of my harley not even when I was a young twenty five bull. I want to sell my Vision only so I can get another one. It would be great to have two of them in the garage. Tires would last longer.

I had a 2003 Ultra Classic. Never any problems with it. Bored it to 95 ci and it would do about 105 mph before I would feel uncomfortable. The Vision governs out at 120 and still feels good.

Is their anything that the new RG has that you wish the Visions had?
