My 08 did the same with the volume changing stations thing. The control under the left side is to blame. only real fix is to replace it. You can use the dash buttons until then and it will work.

Right on - did you try taking it apart to see if anything could be cleaned or repaired? I tried the cable in a couple of devices, pulling and plugging, wiggling at the base of the plug, shaking and flexing along it, the usual moves. Nothing doing. Tomorrow evening I'll pull the panel and see if the other end and any other plugs are loose or dirty. Also mount my cup holder and my floorboard skids.

Well, the cable was a win, at least. One of the three pins was crushed in. I was able to get it straightened out and now all is well in aux audio world.
