Whats the other end of a powerlet? The side you plug in your device? What type of plug is that? Is it the same as the 2011 vision a cigarette port?

The other end is a socket for a 'been around for 100 years' regular old cigarette lighter plug. Strikes me as stupid design driven by a dose of 'GEE, That looks cool', net gain, another 10 inches of coaxial cable to futz with, BRILLIANT!!.

I've said for decades that engineers should be required to work as mechanics and maintainers of things for 5 years before they design anything, it might help push the 'dumb a$$' and 'WTF??'out of how things are designed.

Actually, I think it is a brilliant idea and wish more manufacturers would go with the euro style plug, there are many more benefits. I think some cars have gone to leaving out the cigerette lighter, and I know most call it a "power outlet" now. I don't even know if it would accommidate an cigerette lighter. The difference is that the cigarette lighter adaptation as a power outlet came many years after the cigarette lighter came to be. Often the plugs were flimsy and unreliable, and sometimes dangerous. I'm sure the euro style came to be by wanting to create a better "mousetrap" in to create a power outlet. The problem only lies in the reluctancy to change, period. We'll actually outdate ourselves before something better comes along, as most gizmo gadgets that we want to use can run from the USB power. I expect that to be the next big thing and find that some cars are already there, so given time even the powerlet will be the dinasaur of a power adapter. As far as an engineer working on stuff, I have come to realize, though it is a wish of mine, machinery would be much more expensive than what they are, and it would also put the mechanics out of business. I only ask them to design it with reliability and longevity so that it doesn't have to be worked on as often. I think that is where Victory is, it must be just as bad to be a Victory technician as it is to be a Maytag repairman....

And, using that logic explains why when you buy ANY electrical appliance in Britian, it comes without a plug since there are over 350 styles of electrical outlets due to non standardization and the decision of type and style being left to the local council to decide, so then you're off to the local DYI store to pick up a plug end for your new refridgerator or lamp. Just because it's a heck of an idea, you might want to make sure it's used over an area bigger than the turf your housecat roams in a night before going with it.
