Fellow Riders,

Ok, what's the process to get the Visions gas gauge up to the FULL line??? Today, I sat on the bike, kept it perpendicular to the ground which was level and SLOWLY filled the tank. I backed off filling as the gas settled into the 2nd side of the tank. I filled the tank to just below the neck of the fuel tank. When I took off from the gas station, the fuel gauge read 3/4 full and remained there.

As always, any and all input is greatly appreciated!!!

btw....It was a spectacular day to ride in CT today!!!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I've found that leaving it on the kick stand works best and slowly putting in gas, letting it settle works for me. Patience is the key. After the first five fill ups I stopped back at the dealership to complain about my gauge not working then read some posts about this and did it slowly and got a full tank. Good luck.

I have found it best to fill up the Vision while on it's side stand and at a very slow rate. I've been doing it like this since I got my Vision back in April of '08 and I have yet to see the gauge read completely full but it's always been just barely below the full mark, never as far down as 3/4. The total fuel capacity is 6 gallons even and usually the low fuel light will initially come on while the bike is on the sidestand with about 2-1/2 to 3 gallons left due to the fuel gauge sending unit being in the right tank and all the fuel settles mostly in the left tank while the bike sits on the side stand. I usually don't worry about fuel until the low fuel light comes on while actually riding on it.

I hope this helps a little!

You will get more in with the bike on the kickstand. Fill it slow and when you get full to the top put your foot on the floorboard and rock the bike a bit. You should release some trapped air and have room for a little more. I hate stopping for fuel so I spend and extra couple of minutes and make sure all the air is out and I am full.
That being said my last Vision never read full on the gauge and there was no doubt it was full. It went a little above 3/4.
It bugged me but not enough to have it fixed out of warrenty.
Once I used a gallon it was accurate.

I do it the same as Michael and get it totally full. My gauge was off by 1.5 gallons when I first got it which actually caused me to run out on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Mine would read full for about 50 miles. I had them warranty it by replacing the sending unit and its dead accurate now same as my '11 was. I get a pretty consistent 25 miles per 1/8 tank hash mark.

Thanks Guys! The next time I go to the station I will try your recommendations. I will report back some time next week. I have to give the bike up for a couple of days...having the reverse kit installed and the front end that I bought from Marc Parnes.

Do a 'search' - this is a problem from 2008.

Secret is - once it clicks off - just grab the throttle grip and rock the bike for maybe 15 seconds. Then top it up slowly. I call it 'CHARACTER' .... something that makes the bike different.

+1 I also put my foot on the floorboard and gently rock the bike to get the air out.

I'm new to Victory in general and the Vision in particular. I've had no problem filling my Vision. I just take my time since I'm not making a NASCAR race pitstop anyway. On the sidestand works best for me and I like to pull up to the left side of the pump so that I don't have to reach across the bike with a hose and possibly scratching the paint. To each his own but I have no problems and no complaints filling my Vision with gas. Now if it would get about 100 MPG that would be great but in the meantime I'm happy with 40+ particularly from a new bike.

Regarding the fuel gauge, I don't really pay much attention to it. Tip meter #1 is used as the distance record for each tank of fuel and that's what I go by for refilling. Refill tank, reset trip meter 1 to zero and off we go. That said, my gauge does say full when I'm done refueling but it takes a while to climb up there.

I agree with Rider44..No issues for me if you take your time and not really worry about it..If you can see the fuel at the top of the filler neck after you have slowly filled the tank..Does it really matter what the gauge reads??. I have always used the trip meter for fuel filling anyhow and have learned not to trust the fuel gauge....

I tend to refuel when the gauge says it's at about a 1/2. That's a couple hours of riding and by then it's time to walk around the bike anyway. I'm not Iron Butting it so stopping every so often doesn't matter. If it's hot, that's a good time to get a fresh (and cold) bottle of water and drain the main vein. On my trip to Novi, MI in a couple weeks (250 miles each way), I'll stop at about 75 miles (as I wait on another rider) then again another 60 miles past that (to pick up yet another rider). I'll gas up before I leave the house then at Coldwater, MI (2nd stop). Gas up at the destination then again at Coldwater on the way home (125 miles from Coldwater to Novi). Seems about right no matter the weather.

donetracey, I thought character was why it was OK that a Harley will make your eyeballs shake at idle. A hard time filling a bike to show full is a design flaw. Come to think of it, that extreme vibration that makes it impossible to discern where my horn is at any one moment when my bike is at idle is a design flaw too. It is just accepted and praised on some bikes.

I fill-up on the side-stand with the pump on my right.
I only insert about one inch of the nozzle into the tank and run it full speed for the first 3 gallons or so and then slow way, way down until it fills up to where it touches the fuel pump nozzle.
There's really no need to shake the bike.
If I can't get the pump to go slow enough, I just wait 15 seconds or so between adding more fuel to allow it to transfer to the other tank through the crossover.

Kick stand, right side, etc like the rest. If I run the pump full bore, I find I get fuel spattered everywhere so I run it as slow as I can. No big deal. Taking time to fuel up a Vision is just one of it's idiosyncrasies.

Exactly! Basically, you need to "burp" it. I push on the end of the right side grip to rock in back and forth a few times. Then fill a little more. Typically after the initial main "fill", I'll burp it... fill again, burp a second time, and top it off. I always get it to read Full doing this.

Some bikes won't get past 3/4 on the gauge even though the tank is full. Float rubs on the inside edge of the tank and hangs it up. Mine was one of them. I had to replace the float a few weeks ago (put on a brass $4 float instead of replacing the whole sending unit) and flexed the arm just a touch to try to make it clear. I almost got it far enough. Now every now and then it won't float all the way up when I fill it, but the first hard left on a full tank and it'll go ahead and float up. It'll also stay at full until it burns down to about 7/8, then on a bump it'll drop down where the float jars loose. I wish I had gotten it over just a wee bit more, but I'm not taking all that junk off again just to fix it.

I fill the Vision up like several are suggesting: Starting straight up and down. Then, put it on the kickstand and continue to fill up, stand back up and slowly fill. The dealer told me, "You have to have the bike RUNNING to have it pump the fuel from one tank to the other." I did this initially, but stopped shortly afterwards. Now, I use the above method, but also turn the bike "on" with the key and put the run/stop switch to "run". Full tank everytime showing 220 or better on the range.

Mr. Reed. Thank you for your deep concern for us poor Vision riders.

I shall consider recommending you should you ever run for office - for some reason, somewhere.

My 2008 Vision seems to have a design where the fuel tank is part and parcel of the frame of the motorcycle. This means that the fuel is stored in various locations - not in one big puddle. So - to re-fuel - each little 'puddle' need to get the AIR out of it - and be REPLACED by fuel.

This may be a bit of a puzzle to some, but many of us Victory Owners understand the concept.

Please don't be upset at the manufacturers, or designers. They don't mean to make you feel stupid.

Keep up the good work!

Your dealer is full of it. There is a ~1" hose between the tanks at the very bottom rear, and a 1/2" hose at the very top front (to allow air to equalize.) It never "pumps the fuel from one tank to the other." The pump pulls from the right side tank (right in front of the filler hole) and the hoses keep the tanks even. I promise -- I just had it all apart. I might can even post a few pics, but I'm not sure if you can see much that has to with this question.

The main problem is that the filler hole isn't the highest point on the fuel tank(s.) If you can find a station where you can park nose downhill and put it on the sidestand that would put the filler tank as close to highest as possible, thus allowing the most air to escape and the most gas in the tank.
