I'm so pleased with my Vision that I'm thinking about adding a 2002 V92C Deluxe. Could I get some pros/cons on this model and year? Not replacing my Vision, just an addition. Thanks!

I owned a 2001 V92 Deluxe and a 2003 V92. I only rode the 2001 about 15,000 miles before trading on the 03. They changed the "original" motor to the new Freedom motor in 02 and it both ran better and looked better. I rode the 03 about 35,000 miles before I traded it so I spent a few hours in the saddle. Here are some pros and cons.
Pros
+Easy to bump the 92" to 100" and they run hard. The older motors had bigger valves and made good power. I could lift the front of my 03 off the ground after I put the big bore kit in.
+Look like an old school bike (if you like that look)
+Own a piece of Victory history
+There are still a lot of Vic dealers with old accessories laying around.

Cons
+Compared to the new Vics they ride like shit! The front end suspension is harsh and the vibes through the bars will put your hands to sleep. The rear suspension is not much better.........in other words they ride like a Harley.
+The wheel bearings will fail! Between me and a few other friends I know of 4 sets that failed. It became standard practice to replace wheel bearings when ever you changed tires. The good news is the $10 set from NAPA performed better than the ones from Victory.
+ No other real cons they were a solid bike that ran well.

I would agree with Big Vic but also add that I just sold my 02 V92C. I thought it was the shit the entire time I had it. It was my first bike and we had it set up fullly dressed for two up riding. had about 44k on it when I sold it two months ago. After switching to the Vision, I could not believe how bad the old bike's ride really was. The suspension was so hard and I no longer felt comfortable riding it. I'm 6ft 3 and weigh in at 325lbs. It felt like I was riding a mini-bike. like it was a size too small for me. I was going to break it down, redo it and convert it back to a single rider set up this winter but I lucked my ass on to a Hammer at an unbelievable deal. Good luck. When I was selling mine I seen a few for sale with 1/4 the miles I had for under 4k so I know that they are out there.

That's okay VA, say it!

I was going to break out with an Oliver Douglas speech, but changed my mind.  I found the 92s the best looking Harley bike. I say that because I was stopping by the Harley joint one day and there was this very nice looking bike out front for sale.  It caught my eye in the sea of bikes out front.  Turned out to be a 92.  The Victory dealer had a 92 on consignment, but I felt they were asking too much for such an old bike with a lot of miles.  That was a sweet looking bike.  Fortunately, the Vision saved me from buying a Gold Wing.

IMHO if it wasn't for the 92, Victory wouldn't be where it is today.  If it wasn't for Harley to keep the passion burning, there wouldn't have been Victory.

I do not do to much posting but I sure to read alot and I have read a lot of varyder's post and I agree with his posts most times. Again I do agree with you on the above post but now I have a question for you, how many fn miles did that 92 have on it for you to claim that it had "a lot of miles"?

I wish I could remember that number, but lotsa of miles to me would have been in the neighborhood of 60,000 miles or more. I remember going to look at it several times and while it was "loaded" with chrome and other stuff, the book value was well below what they were asking for it. It was well taken care of, but they didn't know if the transmission had been fixed. I never spoke to the original owner, just the dealer where it was on consignment.

Let me also caveat the comment by saying at the time I was only back into the world of motorcycles for two years, and still had the prejudice that a bike over 30,000 miles was wore out unless it was a Gold Wing.  Go figure.  But it is a just thought, because folks that I knew/know who rode Harley would/will dump them at 20,000 miles or less to maintain a decent resale value.

Have I answered any questions you might have?

PS:  To my understanding, after I lost interest in the bike and was on my way to buy the Vision, I heard he dropped the price considerably before it sold.

Everybody has pretty well covered it. The 2002 V92C is a solid bike, but unrefined compared to any of the later bikes and especially the Vision. That gives them their own kind of charm. They are great for short rides or day rides. My 2000SC is set up for touring and it has done 3000 mile trips before. The Vision has spoiled us of course. I still love to ride my SC occasionally just to get that "Harley" feel. It vibrates, it's loud, it has "character", and it has an elemental quality about it that just feels good--at least for a little while.

I wouldn't worry about the transmission. Those that did have problems were very vocal about it, and I probably would have been too if I had been one of them, but I really believe most of them were fine. You just didn't hear about the ones that didn't fail and the early bikes got an undeserved reputation for bad trannies. By the 2002 model year, the problems had been addressed anyway. My 2000SC still has it's original tranny and it shifts as good as my Vision. I don't want to start another oil argument, but I am also convinced that most of the early bikes' problems were due to insufficient lubrication. If you insist on using the Vic oil, change it at 2000 miles on that 2002 if you want that tranny to last. I have been going 5000 miles per change on my SC for 12 years, but not on the Vic oil. On the Vic oil, the tranny always got difficult to shift after about 2000 miles. Not good. New oil returned the bike to normal shifting--for about 2000 miles. Victory set the change interval at 2500 miles on those models. I'm convinced the oil itself was the reason why. It's shot by 2500 miles. So, I just started using a good oil and go 5000 miles--double the recommended interval--with great success.

Get the bike if it speaks to you.

I had a '99, V92C Deluxe. It is what convinced me to get the Vision when it became available.
I did have the tranny repaired at about 27,000 miles, and it was like getting a new bike.
When I traded it on my Vision, it had 47,000+ miles (smiles) on it.
While it never handled like the Vision, mine never had the HD vibration, and I could stay in the saddle with
most anyone. Made several 3-4 night trips to Deals Gap with it and would still be on it if the Vision had not become available.

The wife reminded me today that we did not care for the stock seat and I found a mustang seat that made the longer riders soooo much easier to handle. I got the mustang real cheap too.

I would get a TC over a C. Had an '02 great bike. Put 70k hard miles on it. They do have issues like all of them.

I just picked up an 01 V92C dlx this last fall and my son and I went through it completely last winter. New tires, wheel bearings, rebuilt the forks, repainted it red. I have to say as spoiled as I am with my Vision, I love the hell out of that old C model. It's just fun to ride back and forth to work and short cruises. But when it comes to distant riding, I'm on the Vision. I was told when I bought it that I wouldn't ride it but I love riding the old thing. So if you feel that you want an old C or TC I say go for it.

I will always keep my '99 KYSO V92C-my first leap of faith onto the Victory bandwagon 13 years ago-it had it's issues but you know those machines & women that gave you the most worries are the ones you loved the most too. I added a 2003 TC and it was the best bike I've ever owned-72,000 flawless miles when traded in for my Vision & I still miss it sometimes. My 99 has a '03 trans , Andrews cams, 10.5:1 pistons from Zack's, PMRT chip, and is, in many ways, smoother/faster than my '09 vision with cams & fuel controller. I love 'em both, wish I had room to keep more but "a man has to know his limitations".

Well, I bought a 2002 V92C in Colorado Springs, CO. with under 12,000 miles on it. I'm just the 3rd owner in 10 years, not bad.

Now for another question. I want to add the Victory "sissy bar luggage rack" part# 2872754. When I called my dealer .... discontinued! Number isn't even in their Victory accessories system anymore. Does anyone know where I can find one??

Thanks!

Denny, they're hard to find, I'll look around and let you know if I find anything-do you already have the side rails? most sissy bar & luggage racks need side rails to mount to. Brian

The bike has the sissy bar and side plates, so all I need is the luggage rack. Thanks!

I found a mini luggage rack http://www.ebay.com/itm/V92C-Victory-Motorcycle-Luggage-Rack-1999-2...
The original bike's accessories were manufactured by Cobra-I'm about 90% sure this would bolt on

Got to agree with most have said, the V92c was unrefined but had great character. It was still better built than the HDs of its time. I still have my '03 as my around-town-ground-pounder. The v92 and the Vision compliment each other because they're so different.

Chris,

After Sept. 21, 2007, it was the dealers bike... lol

I did have it there for a bit before my Vision arrived...

It was Antrares Red & Black.

I was the first to order my Vision, but yours came in first...
