Prairie Dog Heaven, CO | I am trying to decide on a backrest. Read a lot about the Utopia and it seems fine but I don't really like the looks of it nor the fact that it sits high, which seems to be a common complaint.
There is almost no info on the factory rider's backrest on any of the forums and I had no luck with Polaris cust service. Here is a link to a picture of it (or see below if the attachment works):

Does anyone have it? The slots/grooves visible in the picture of the seat post suggest that it is height adjustable. It also looks like it would be easy to remove - is it quick-out? Is it comfortable? Is the angle adjustable?
I have the 2010, so I have a slot in the seat already - I'm a little confused by the POLARIS catalog which says it's for 2008-2011 so it seems that 2008/9 owners would need to cut a slot into the seat (like Utopia).

Prairie Dog Heaven, CO | Thanks John, I saw these. These are for the Utopia though. I think I would have a hard time getting used to how high the Utopia sits. This is why I am considering the factory back rest.

Beer Collins, Colorado (there is no fort) | I put the backrest shown on my '09. Had to buy a bracket and mount it to the underside of the seat to recieve the backrest and I'm guessing you need to do the same.

Can you easily remove the backrest without taking the seat off?
Are you happy with yours?
Is the passenger comfort compromised at all?
As you are close maybe we should meet up sometime...

Beer Collins, Colorado (there is no fort) | I'm very happy with the Vic back rest-although there were some mods needed to put the bracket on an '09 seat-easily adjusts up/down or simply pull it out. My navigator likes it as it gives her something to grab when getting on or off and also has a little zippered goodie bag on the back of the rest. Brian |

Prairie Dog Heaven, CO | Thanks much. This sounds like a winner to me. I understand the bracket fits on the 2010 seat without modifications. As I said earlier I was confused how the same backrest can fit all years even though the seats are different on the 2010+ bikes |

NE Florida Jacksonville | This is my basic Utopia back rest and the modification I made to make it removable. I did not use the bolt and nut but instead used a pin and a magnet to hold the keeper to the seat post and not drop down on the saddle. With the storage pouch you don't see the pin at all. The allen screw allows the seat be adjusted as far forward as the rider may desire. The pin cost a whopping $3.95 at the local hardware store. It is a 1/4" dia and 3 1/2" long.

This is from Victory catalog:
"Enjoy an ideal combination of cushion and support with this Backrest, keeps a driver fresher during high-mileage days in the saddle. Installs in the slot of the seat using the required Driver Backrest Mount (P/N 2877809, not pictured). Works with heated accessory seat (P/N 2878053, sold separately) but not with the factory non-heated seats on '08-'09 Victory Vision models."
So if you have the heated seat you "should" be fine. - That said, when I called Polaris customer service, they would not verify this.
Maybe ByteN2it has better info for you as he mounted it to his 2009.

NE Florida Jacksonville | My 2010 already had the slot in the seat for the back rest. The Utopia backrest comes with the bracket that bolts to the bottom of the seat, that is what I used on my Vision. Yes my seat is heated and there are no problems with the back rest or its mount. Total install time was under 30 minutes, it would have been quicker but I dropped one of the screws and had to fish it out of the chassis. Next time I'll do the bracket install away from the bike.  |

Beer Collins, Colorado (there is no fort) | I was told that the bracket was a direct fit for a '09 with a heated seat-not true. I had to remove two of the molded plastic seat pan gussets to make way for the bracket base and I also moved the ECM back a bit as the bracket came dangerously close to the plug connection and I didn't want any trouble down the road. I used some SS button head bolts & fender washers for added support as the bracket kit has no hardware. That + cutting a slot in and trimming it out got me where I was happy and have been for over 10,000 miles on the back rest. I checked out the Utopia but just didn't like the looks and price was about the same-see you on the road-Brian

| I bought that backrest for my 2010 vision 8 ball and love it. Adjustable up and down, the angle of the back rest, and off an on in seconds.

Prairie Dog Heaven, CO | Thanks all mine came in the mail yesterday. Mounted the bracket in 5 minutes. Excellent fit and finish. Nicely adjustable.Sits exactly in the right place for my taste (nice and low lumbar support). Just pull it out to remove. Very nice indeed.
I am glad I did not get the Utopia. The Vic is cheaper, too, as it comes with the quick out option which is quite a bit extra on the Utopia. And, to me, it looks better. Someone said the adjustment screw was "huge" I think it's nicely sized not too small not too big. The knurled knob is maybe 3/4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch deep. Also has a little pouch so my wife can keep things in there.... small things ;-)

Stockton, California | Does anyone know how these backrests affect the pillion? Just looking at the pictures it looks like the Utopia is rather large. It looks like it cuts down on room for the pillion. The Victory looks smaller. Does it have more room than the Utopia. If I could hear from someone who rides pillion while having the backrest on that may help us decide which one to get.

LaPorte,Tx. | The Utopia back rest can impede on the passenger, a lot depends on the size of that person. The Utopia is wide at the bottom so it will rub on some passengers legs, but not all passengers, depends on the size of the person. The Victory backrest looks a little smaller, so it maybe better. I will say, the backrest is one of the best additions to my Vision. |

Litchfield Park, AZ | I absolutely LOVE the comfort of the Utopia backrest, but it is horrible with a passenger. With a passenger, I would give it a 2 out of 10...it's just too big and I have to remove it if my wife or son are riding on the back. Would like to get a "ride report" directly from a passenger with the Victory backrest in place. |

| I have the factory backrest on a 2010 vision... It pulls right out.. the slots work as detents when u slide it up or down... Works wonderfully for me. |

Central New York | I have the Utopia also. I have thought about having it cut down for the reasons above. Bottom line is though, that it fits me great and I don't what to jeopardize that comfort and secure feeling that it gives me as is. Besides, I'M the one that's on it ALL the time. Let the riders get their own bike. Just say'in. |
