There are some Happy Campers on the West Coast tonight.

KevinX, thank you for flying cross-country and working the Cam Party in San Diego today.  Lloydz, thank you for the parts.

I just finished my approximate 200 mile test ride home from the San Diego Cam Party.  I had Ness Big Honkers, Gatlin Tips, VFC3 and the Air Box mods done prior.  All of these previous mods have not held a candle to today's mods with respect to performance and feel of the bike that the new Stage 2 CAMs have demonstrated over the past 200 miles.  Sure, the Big Honkers were noticeably louder, but I did not feel much change in performance and handling.  I refused to interpret the increase in sound as proof of power.

The ride home was most interesting to say the least.  I swear KevinX changed the gearing on the bike today.  I saw what he did and am sure he never cracked open the tranny.  It is like the bike is geared much higher.  I do not want to go into 6th until at least 1XX MPH.  Engine breaking is much smoother than before.  The engine does not sound like it is going to blow up when engine braking and I now engine brake in a lower gear (this must be due increased amount of gas exchange that is now available with the Stage 2 CAMs).

I also swear that KevinX lowered the rev-limiter today because redline is now reached a whole lot quicker.

Talk about roll on power.  While cruising at 80MPH in 5th gear, a quick twist of the wrist arrives you at 90 MPH within 2 seconds.  By the time you roll of the trottle at the count of two-one-thousand, you are already pushing 95 MPH.  The engine no longer hesitates to gain a head of steam, it just goes.

I had a couple of decel pops on the way home, but at least the bike now has something to pop for !!!

Again, KevinX, thank you for flying cross-country and providing the talent and hard work to modify all of these bikes today in such a timely and tireless fashion.

Llodz, thank you very much for the Stage 2 CAMs.  I am sure once the rest of the West Coast Vision Riders get a taste of these modded bikes, your CAM orders will be going up.

This is the way the bike should come from the factory.  It is a whole new powerful smooth running animal.

Sincerely,

Tim

Thanks Tim. I had a great time, and got to meet a bunch of cool people. Last night when we wraped it all up; Jerry, Mike, brent, and I took a ride around the area, and over to the beach. Just wish I had more time.

I just dropped off Kevin @ the airport only to get a call a few minutes ago that the terminal is being evacuated. I told Kevin not to say the B word when checking in!!! And kevin if you read this anytime soon before you fly out..I'm working on trying to find out what's going on!

To wrap this up, I want to beat a dead horse and thank say some public thank yous. Of course Kevin for flying coast to coast and doing a phenom job on the installs all on little sleep, Ken Stevens (SDVIC) for having a big hand in getting Kevin out here by donating FF miles that he had saved up, and Gerry Gray (Splatmatter) for providing the venue which was a win/win for the shop owner Mike as he learned some valuable tips from Kevin on running the dyno and dealing with Victory motors. We had numerous Victory riders from throughout SD county ride in and meet Kevin.

Kevin is the real MF deal! Anyone who has him work on the their bikes will not be disappointed.

My four run dyno average - hp 105.5 - torque 105.4
That is with S1 L1 California map as a base.
Will be running the bike on another dyno at a different shop to compare a previous stock dyno run .
Thanks again to Kevin ,
Ken

Ken, what pipes do you have ?

Also, is that the recall map, or the original S1L1 map?

Thanks,

Tim

Well to say we had a good time is saying the very least-- Myself , Mike at full throttle powersport and my son Brent had already installed the cams in my vision about 3 or 4 months ago-- but the chance to work with Kevinx was way to good of an opportunity for all of us involved-- Kevin is the real deal folks and a asset to the vic community--- we learned alot about tuning and the technieque of installing the cams and I really apprieate the xtra time kevin spend with mike on the dyno-- the odd thing though was when we went for a ride to the beach after all the work was done- we ended up at belmont park in mission bay-- to see one of the premier vic techs in the country ride the old wooden roller coaster and scream like a little girl was almost more than I could take- ofcourse when leaving the parking lot afterward I managed to lay my vision over on the tip overs but were not going to talk about that--- to all the local vicsters that showed up to make this a fun day also thanks-- its not often we get that many vics in one place in san diego.

Sun afternoon I had recovered enough to go for a ride with Gary(gwill2sh) about an 1 1/2 after he had dropped kevin at the airport-- he hadn't riden his bike since the install and had to wait for mike to show up to open the shop-- after lunch in Imperial Beach and a quick return to Santee, Gary had a smile that wraped all the way around to the back of his head that you could see thru his helmet-- he was pleased with the new performance

thanks again to all who showed and and were involved-- Mike will be working this week to get the dyno fully lined out and dialed in

Tim,
I have S1L1 Victory pipes and the down load map was done May 2009 for the pipes not the stock map.

Tim, don't you have to change your signature now? It is an incredible setup. No loss of drivability, which is amazing by itself.

It's not "No loss in drivability" It is VASTLY improved drivability. The dyno we haqd on hand was never calibrated when it was assembled, and was reading low across the board. We comparedd a before run to a run on the dyno we had, and found it to read 7Ftlb, and a few HP under. Kens bike however banged out a reasonable number right off the bat, and I am guessing that put on another dyno; his will be a wildcard powerfull bike

John,

I am getting a local dyno map done and will post it.  The one in SD was questionable.

According the dyno in SD, MAX Torque stayed the same.  I no longer have the high end torque roll-off, so torque increased in the high RPM range until redline.

MAX HP was increased by 15.

Hopefully, I should have a another pull on a properly calibrated local dyno within a week or so.  This should yield more trustable numbers and I will post them then.

As for driveability, KevinX pretty well summed it up... There is definitely more power and pickup.  Less throttle hesitation.  The exhaust note has changed for the better IMHO.  Engine braking is smoother.  Able to use a wider range of each gear without the engine sounding like it is being overdriven.  Did not ruin the characteristic ride of touring bike versus that of a drag bike.  Find myself using about 1 gear lower than normal, especially for engine braking.

Sincerely,

Tim

I 100% agree, but a lot of folks think you have a crappy idle after cams or loss of low end power. Not these.

Jim, Jim, Jim ...

Long time.  Hope all is going well.  You should organize a CAM party with KevinX in your neck of the woods.  If you have a struggling local shop, see if they will host it at their site for a WIN/WIN/WIN situation.

I just had my bike dynoed by a local shop that has been in business for 15 years so hopefully, its dyno calibrations are not in question.  As you can see by my signature below, the new numbers are much higher than the numbers of the questionable San Diego dyno.  These numbers are more in sync with what the 49-staters are getting.

Sincerely,

Tim

2008 Vision with Stage2 CAMs;  Lower numbers are a 4th gear pull, higher numbers are a 5th gear pull.

Thanks Tim. I was pretty sure the dyno we had was 7/7 low, and that is pretty much the EXACT figure you reflect.
