I love my Vision but I am soooo sick of the bike poping all the time, went with my Harley buddies to the Harley dealership where they have a BBQ every Saterday and they also have a riders class. The instructor saw my Vision and asked me to run in the course to see how the bike stacked up next to a roadglide the had there and on almost every decel the bike would pop. So after a hour of having 30 guys break my balls calling my Vision a George Jetson pop corn machine we finally got the hell out of there and hit the open road where my Vision kept on poping on decel. Can someone tell me why this problem has not been figured out yet? I have had the bike to the dealer 3 times since they put on the Ness honkers and finally was told "there is nothing we can do" I am so sick of this problem im thinking about getting rid of the Vision which really sucks cause I love everything else about the bike.

There is nothing you can do about the pop. You are not the only one that is tired of it thats for sure! Might be worth it to put the stock exhaust back on it? I have thought about doin that, there wouldn't be any noticeable HP loss.
How did your bike stack up against the Road Glide?

Donny - here is what I wrote in another thread some time back:

Popping can be controlled by riding style/shifting smootheness - don't know how else to explain it. I bought mine with stage 1/gatlins - and it popped when I was lazy with my driving - I got a little crisper - no more popping. NONE.
Until I got KevinXinated.... then it popped again - and more spirited - and annoying. Once again - controlled completely with slight modification of driving technique. Laziness = popping. For me...... and easily controlled.

Months later (now) my VV still pops if I GET LAZY - so I know it is 'driver controlled'.

Do a search of the threads using 'popping' as a keyword - and you will get more advice than you ever wanted. You are not alone....

I have posted this a couple of times, but seems all the gear headz here feel you need to tear down, port and polish. I too had not only the the popping, but at lower rpm's complete stalls. I have cured it by changing fuel brands. Our local victory dealer and Radio station began two wheel tuesday's, which they give away gas of bikes on tuesdays between 7-8pm at 7-11 stores. Having been fairly loyal to Shell and believing 7-11 gas was discount, lower grade I was sckeptical. How ever after having my Vision run awesome from wed to sat, then pop again after going back to Shell products. I now will not run shell in my Vision. Please try I am sure it will cure the problem. Note. some of the refineries supply thier competitors in certain areas, and vise versa. Let mw know how that works for you.

norcan - This is the 1st time that I ever heard that a certain brand of "gas" makes the bike pop. Can you explain???

The only thing I have found that helps is completely closing the throttle when shifting. It will not stop all popping, but will reduce it a lot.

Ive reduced the popping on mine as well (stage 1 level1 with gatlin tips) Just by changing fuel. I have gone to the mid grade fuel instead of the highest. Pop is almost gone. Once i get a tank or two through it after the winter im going to try the low octane and see if that helps also. If not i will go back to the mid grade. Also using the mid grade fuel , i have noticed no difference in performance at all.

My motor is completely stock...pipes, air filter, and all. I have not had any problems I read about on this forum. The only issue I've come across is difficult starting after sitting all winter. Even then it only took about 5 tries. I read somewhere in this forum to pump the throttle three times after it sat for a while. I'll try that when the snow melts. The rest of the year it starts instantly and never stalls once started.

I don't know if I am just lucky to have a good running motor or if it's truely because I left it stock. I would like some good sounding pipes, but I am very reluctant after hearing what others are saying about popping, stalling, hesitation, etc.

I have stage 1 level 2 with gatlin, right from day one, never ran stock pipes. I have goten very low once and had to put in shell. $3, which is equal to 3 litres at the time. I was not even out the parking lot and it stalled, backfired. We can only get 92 here, but out in lower mainland BC tried 1-2 taanks of 94 oct. No real noticable diff, but runs awesome on fasgas and petrocan. As to why it runs better, only diff is the nitrogenated fuel! I did the listen here, and tighten every exhaust joint etc. no change till I stmbled on the fuel!! Go figure, but I know it works for me.

I do that also along with shifting at 3500 rpm... That keeps it from poping some of the time for sure.

You never told us how your bike did against the Roadglide. Was it that bad?

The bike kicked the Roadglides ass which is why the poping was so damn shitty, the Harley guys saw the Vision handle the Roadglide without any trouble and the bike gives it all away by poping all over the track. Hearing the Harley guys go "the Victory motor is so much more advanced than Harleys hahahaha they cant even figure out how to get it to stop poping'' Pisses me off..

The HD guys have no room to talk at ALL.....and you still WON ~ 10-4???

Before I took my bike in for the D&D thing I had a revelation as well. I purchased my '08 with S1L2 already installed and had a fair amount of popping (not bad though). I then had the Cams / VFC III / Intake Plate installed and performance improved while popping remained relatively unchanged. I then took to dealer and they screwed up by DELETING my S1L2 download. I was in a state of panic when I called KevinX. His crisis negotiation skills kicked in and he was able to calm me down. He then walked me through re-setting my VFC III for a stock download. I have NOT regretted this at all as the popping has almost completely disappeared. Just waiting to see how everything works once I get her back now.

I have always used regular gas in my '08 for 6k miles with S1L2 and have minimum popping. The one time it became a bother I tightened the exhaust header bolts and it went away. I normally use Pilot, Speedway or equivalent here in Southeast Ky in all my vehicles and have NEVER had a problem...including a Volvo XC90. Besides my '08 VV, I have a RSTD with 21,000 on it (trailering it to Daytona next Saturday) and the wife rides a '06 VTX1300. All have been problem free...but I also change oil/filter every 3k (2.5K for VV), constantly check air pressure, etc and change out brake & clutch fluid every 2 years, plugs & air filter at 10K and so on. Tires seem to last 10-12K unless a road demon bites one. On the RSTD, I have Baron slip-ons (minus baffles) and tach...plus a Dynatech 3000 module set at redline 7250....HD's are puzzled when they hear that V4...but quickly learn to keep away from it or be embarassed. Still toying with Vmax cams and a displacement upgrade...but it eats HD's as a basically stock 1300 so well already! LOVE the Vision and the exhaust is OK sounding for now.....but the RSTD is fun to ler scream when I want to wake up the neighbors....everyone recognizes that sound! Ride Safe
