I think you are referring to the trim behind the engine? The silver panels come off- you need to pull the center of the plastic rivet up, and it will come out, then the two pieces come off by pulling the pieces out, and off. They are on with rubber grommet type stays. Hope this helps!-----Metalguy

pull the black plastic pins out of the center of the black fasteners you mentioned. This will allow you to pop out the rest of the fastener. A gentle tug on the side cover and it should start popping off the bike. Super easy...

FYI - Vision Tool must have - Flexible magnet (available at most auto parts stores.) Mine is about 18" and has an LED on the end. Cost - under 20.00. Value when working on your Vision - Priceless.

Sorry for the shameless plug... but now ya know why we have these avialable

The Victory-Riders Flexi-Lite

This ingenious product features a moveable neck with high intensity white LED flashlight and a red laser pointer. The base is a powerful magnet that allows it to be attached to most metal surfaces, and the burgundy color barrel sports a handy metal clip.
For more information and to order yours now, click here.

Mainly for those... events.. on the road. While the LED is on the opposite end from the magnet, you can "spot" the item then just hold the very end of the led and let the magnet grab it. Also, in extreme cases, you can bend the LED around to point where the magnet is. Then tie a string or shoelace to the flex part and lower it into place... maybe guiding it with a little twig or stick.

I carry one with me on the bikes, one in my tool box, and one in the office.

Hey Miles,

My wife bought me the exact same light a few years ago from some gas station. I figured it was crap at the price she paid but took it out to the Navy ships I work on anyway. Man, I used that light for almost two years and it was one of my favorite tools. Perfect for electrical panels and close in work. The magnet and goose neck really made it perfect.

Everyone should buy a couple of these since they are so cheap and small.

All us morons have done it. Thats why they have hardware stores. I give credit to Miles for the shameless plug. Jumped right on it. I dont think that fast. If we didnt loose stuff they wouldnt have hardware stores. A place where women fear to tread. I send mine once in a while to keep her in check?

Rob41, that was my reaction too when I first saw them. Another use is you can clip them to the brim a ball cap, like a head lamp for detail work in low light. And of course lets not forget keeping the cat busy for hours on end with the laser pointer.

I think I just moved to first place in the moron dept. My wife called me at work. Said the whole block is without power, garage door may not work when I get home. She's good like that, incase Im having a bad day, dont want any bad surprizes when I get home. Anyway, I park on the street and lock the forks (something I normally dont do), the power came back on and I went out to move the bike and truck into the garage. Went to move the bike and the key wouldnt work. After 2 min. of trying and damaging the little cover plate on the cylinder, I realize Im trying to start the Vision with the truck key. DUH! The little door on the cover wont close. Dont want anything getting into the lock cylinder so I decide to remove the ignition switch and attempt a repair. I have a lot of experience coding and repairing automotive cylinders how hard could it be. Got the switch out no problem. I figured out how to remove the lock cylinder pretty quickly. The cover has three dimples that I have to be careful with because I dont have a replacement. Im on the balcony because the light is better outside and my eyes are getting old. The cover pops off and over the railing into the driveway. Now I have to go down stairs and into the driveway searching for the cover. Luckily is was a sunny day and being shiney was easy to find. To make a long story even longer. I got everything back together and it works great. I saw the parts installed for the ignition switch recall. Kind of cheap and not the way I would have done it but it work if installed correctly.
But who am I ti judge, I just tryed to start my Vision with my truck key?

I LOVE this one. Every time I get pulled over by a motorcycle cop they act like you are an inferior rider because they have completed the PD motorcycle course. Just because they get paid to ride doesnt make them the best.
