Hey all, am looking to purchase some rain gear for the wife and myself. This gear will be for just in case it rains type of riding rain gear. If I were to be touring I would be in some $1000,00 aerostich suit or some thing like that but right now in my life I'm like a lot of you, Sunny in the morning with the possibility of showers for the ride home from work.

I'm looking to spend around $100. for each suit give or take $50.00. I have been to the motorcycle super store, cycle gear.com, J&P Cycles, frogg toggs etc, etc, etc. and everybody has just about what I want but I would like to hear real comments about what you guys use while riding. I'd rather spend a little more and be happy than cheap out and have it shred in the wind the first time I hit 75mph.

I need an XL TALL (yeah good luck there) for t-shirt weather or maybe a 2xl to go over a jacket and the wife needs a 2xl short and fat size (don't tell I said that) which will be probably harder to find though I do see some rain suits for women that are cut different.

Any suggestions
thanx
Eric

Frogg Toggs if you don't mind burning them up on your pipes. If you go that route, make sure you get a heat proof patch for the inner leg. I have Frogg Toggs and personally, I would like a pair that were heat resistant.

FroggToggs are good emergency rain gear on day trips-great for fishing, not so great for motorcycle touring. When we tour I wear my Olympia AST jacket & Ranger pants-very comfortable in temps into the upper 80s , 100% waterproof & breathable, and no stopping /hopping around on one foot trying to put on rain gear at an underpass after you're already wet. there's some great textiles available out there and you won't look like you have you jammies on goin' down the road.

I bought a set of FT, but had to buy 3X to try to fit my 6-9, 265lb. frame. The pants were huge/too short and the top was, uh, just huge. Next size down was too small. I went to Cabelas and bought a lightweight set that was very similar, but they had them in tall sizes. They fit great, are packable(nice!) and have worn very well. If you're interested, pm me and I'll look up the name/brand when I get home. Good luck

Not sure if they are still available, but I use a Stearns Outdoors suit. Bought it about 15 years ago for fishing. Used often while deer hunting (can be tough on clothing) and while riding. Last year a few drops got through a seam in the pants (first and only leak) which sealed right up with some marine 'Goop'. It kept me dry yesterday. Have to admit to buying high visibility color Frogg Toggs for my son last year more out of concern for his safety then staying dry.

Frogg Toggs. I am very glad I got the bib bottoms. Have had them for 10 years now. I bought them from a vendor @ Sturgis and they were only charging an extra $10 for the bibs at the time. Both bibs and jacket fit in a 10" x 5"dia. stuff sack. Now I think it's a little harder to get bibs, but worth the extra effort.

First Gear two piece suit! I have had two Frogg Toggs suits and liked them until I tried the First Gear Two piece suits, never will I go back the Frogg Toggs again. First Gear suit breath, F.T. don't!

I have Nelson Rigg I bought on Amazon. Best rain suit I ever bought, heavy down pour tested by myself lol. I got home and I was completely dry. The thing I like about this suit is where it velcros around your neck so no water goes down your back or chest.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018EPY6W/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_... this is not available anymore but I am sure they have a similar item.

Rain gear with a 'hood' is also helpful for not getting water down the neck.

diamonbird, is that the only reason? That First gear breathes? How is it constructed that it "breathes? And which First Gear suit do you have. What else do you like about it? Any negatives?

Really? Casue I have an old pair of Frogg Toggs. I just reviewed their web site and could not find one rainsuit that has a patch on the inner legs to protect from exhaust/engine burns. Please post a link if such a FT rainsuit exists. THANKS!

I'm still hung up on the tour master stuff but first gear has really caught my eye, First gear web site shows the suits come in tall sizes and have e-mailed different vendors to see if they actually carry the tall sizes. I think I'm out of luck but rain gear that stops at your elbow and knees really wont cut it. I'll let all you tall guys know what I find out. Eric
