Dallas, Texas | Ok, This is my second replacement since '09. The Shaft, Shift Lever, Item #1014589, has now sheered off twice. Anyone have any ideas as to why? I have a heel to toe shifter, original Dealer installed, but I replaced this lever and shaft last time.

New Bohemia, VA | I had the bolt in the lever-shifter, machined break once, on the highway, pulling away from a stoplight shifted to second gear and the shifter flopped back. But not the one you're speaking off. I would check the angle that it is set at and compare to be sure you're not putting undue force on it. This is not stellar material as one would expect. I'm prone to shift hard so I couldn't blame the breakage on mine on anyone but myself. Of course, when mine broke, I had about a 170,000 miles on the Vision.

Sand Rock, AL United States | Don't recall ever hearing of broken shifter. 134,000 on my first Vision and never had shifter issue. |

Edmonton, AB Canada | johnnyvision, it looks like you put up the newer diagram. On the 08 it is a small pivot part that looks like it is breaking. They must have realized this problem as the newer bikes now have the pivot as part of the shift lever itself. I couldn't get the pictures to work, so here is the link. New Bohemia, VA | JV on mine, it was the bolt that went through the top part of #4, broke outright, causing the hole to spread and the lever to drop off. I was able to baby it home but would have to reach down and make sure it was on between shifting sessions until I got home. I've not looked at my #9, but I'll take a gander. It is obviously a point of failure since it is no longer part of the set up. |

Bingo...and it shears off right where the #9 line points to. I ordered #6-11, just to have a new complete set up. In looking more at the diagram, maybe I should be sure to grease the #7s and then make sure they stayed lubed and clean in the future. Perhaps they stopped rotating and that puts pressure on #9.

Dallas, Texas | Well, it is fixed. Put on my thinking cap this time. The hole on one side of bracket was just a bit too small, and previously I forced in the sleeve that the bolt went through. This time I re-machined the hole so that it slipped in and rotated easier. Also I re-machined the octagon hole in the shifter a bit and greased it, so putting the bolt through was easier and only a light amount hammering was needed (with a rubber mallet of course). Also I was extra generous with my white silicone lube, so between all this, I hope that this is my last time to replace this. I will say that this lever bolt looks better made than the previous one. It would be better if it was one solid piece instead of an octagon bolt welded to the swing arm. But anyway, fingers crossed. |

Galesburg, IL | I think at part # 9 is where mine broke too! I had never heard of anyone having this problem either. Mine has 53k on it. The dealer cleaned it out a bit and re-welded it. He felt like it was a stronger weld than the original (I trust him okay). I guess we'll see... |
