Ruskin, Fl | This is what I got from Dunlop in response to my e-mail about front tire wear:
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your motorcycle tire
questions. The Dunlop Elite 3 tire does tend to wear with a raised section
through the contact patch area. This wear pattern generally develops at
around 3,000 - 4,000 miles of use and then goes away at around 8,000
-10,000 miles. This wear pattern is a result of our efforts to combat the
typical "cupping" wear pattern that is usually associated with these large
touring bikes. It is not considered "unusual" and should have no effect on
the tire's performance and/or grip characteristics.

Northeastern Penna. | Regarding the raised area that occurs on these dunlop tires,do you notice a difference in the ride.
Did Dunlop mention that this appears on all of their tires? |

Ruskin, Fl | Not at all. I only noticed it because the bike was clean and I rode through a shell parking lot. The white dust really highlighted the center of the tire. The next day I saw a post about it. |

New Bohemia, VA | I've got 22K+ on mine and it has it, but it handles just as good as ever. I used bias E3 on my GL1200 and noticed the same thing, or similar. Come to think of it I've NEVER seen a tire wear perfect on anything except a tractor trailer rig. |

Edmonton Alberta, Canada | I have 5000 miles on mine, not only the front tire, but the rear is cuppine too. Mine goes in next week, see what the dealer does for me. As far as handling goes, at slower speeds the bike wanders in the ruts. At higher speeds, we tend to get loose. It may be an alignment problem? However a couple of years back ford/firestone did not have any problems either!!!!! I will report back. |

Edmonton Alberta, Canada | Mine is going to the dealer next week, Snowmobile season is coming, I will not be picking up my bike till they install 2 new tires under warranty. Abnormal wear is both a safety, and liability issue. I have the raise center on the front, as well as the cupping on the back, my bike tends to wander at lower speeds. By wandering, i mean it will shift side to side 4-8 inches. at normal highway speeds if feels loose. Just a little bit discerning. |

The Great Northwet | Bought my with 6030 miles on it. After 1500+ miles, I had a chance to check out the tires. Significant/bad cupping on both tires. The front had the strange shape/center thing. Found a screw in the rear so had ME880's put on. Big difference. Much more stable and no more following the cracks and seams in the rode. |

Ruskin, Fl | I'm going for a new back tire today after getting a flat. Hopefuly at 8000 miles there is still enough meat on the tire to be covered under the tire insurance. If I have to pay for it I think I'll give the Avon Venom-R a try.

I've used the Metzler series on other bikes and have been very pleased with the wear and handling.
Just curious, anyone put white walls on the Vis? I'm trying to picture what that would look like. |
