How many of you have chicken strips on the rear tire?

I do. I hope to see if I can scrub them though this coming summer. Right now I don't trust the pavement due to the salt residue and the coolness of the asphalt.

I have been riding for many years; with a huge break between my earlier and later riding periods. Earlier riding period involved some "get offs" due to immaturity and other contributing outside influences.... the latter period that I'm currently in has culminated in a much more conservative approach to operating a motorcycle.

I have never ridden a crotch rocket; only have ridden cruisers/power cruisers, dual sport and dirt bikes.

One thing that I will disclose at this point; I do not have 100 percent faith in the motorcycle tire grip while street riding and banking into a tight; swooping turn even when conditions feel right. Always have a "low side" in the corner of my mind. ..the street is not like a track where conditions are more likely to be accommodating to push a motorcycle through a maximum lean angle.

Maybe I will find a big parking lot (deserted of course) and start practicing figure 8's with an ever tightening turn radius within each curve of the exercise. At least I can be assured that the immediate ground will be free of debris and other hazards...

Would be interested in how some of you approach this issue regarding maximum lean angle attained while street riding.

I usually have a 3/8"-1/2" of chicken strip-this is off my Vision that I'm riding two up most the time and not trying to impress my copilot with my floorboard draggin' skills. I try to use up as much of the edges as possible while remaining in my comfort zone. Brian

That's pretty impressive. Count me in at least an inch on both sides.....

Count me as a total chicken when it comes to hard over riding. I simply never push the envelope at all. I am a tour rider and enjoy my ride with almost no testosterone involved. If things get a bit hairy, I simply slow down, I do not try harder to make it at the original speed. Just the perspective of someone who has ridden for well over 45 years with no real issues. If I pushed it, I might have made 10 years before my first major mistake that got me into the hospital and forced me to reconsider my actions. Living on the edge means an occasional error will have dire consequences IMO.

Mine aren't chicken strips..........................they're nothing more than a whole split chicken!! I have no desire to slide and tumble as I did when I was a young and fearless teen......

I have a little bit left on the right. I guess since buildings are opaque I go a little slower turning right.

I still have a little bit, but my boards hit hard and often. I don't know that it's possible to go all the way to the edge at my weight.

It's hard to scrape the boards in my area as most of the roads are straight and flat. I have to go over 200 miles just to get to any major twisty roads.

VVTour, it's probably the crown in the road. Right turns are easier to make due to the crown than left turns. I'm still scratching my head as to why there is some white fuzz on your tire though, lol! Good job using all that tire!

Holly Cow VictoryVisionTour, that is a dangerous & way overused tire!

Here was my rear at 18,330 miles. I was getting no traction, and too soon a downshift
would get me squirrely. You must have been playing with the slipping. LOL

Tires have these little things called wear bars. Anything past them is just rolling the dice.

Agree. I once cut open a Metzler after it had worn down to the wear bars; and I changed it out for a new tire. I was horrified at the resultant thinness of the tire's cross section in the center.

I'll always have wear left when I trade my tires out. I'd rather sacrifice a little money than a little skin.

I just replaced my rear tire, it was worn within a half inch on both sides. I had to laugh at the shop that mounted the tire. When I walked in he looked at the old tire and said "That's not off a Harley".
