| I cross threaded my front axle bolt when I changed my front tire. I need to install a HilaCoil repair. Can anyone provide the thread specs for a 2008 Vision front axle? Thanks |

| well if the axle its self is good take it to a NAPA and have them figure it out for you. That or mike it and go to helicoil web site and see if they have that size |

Mechanicsville, VA United States | If I was you I would buy a Tap to fit the threads and tap it from the outside toward the inside and be done with it, unless you have destroyed the threads all together. |

Albuquerque, NM | I'd try a tap and die first. Size is M18 x 1.5. Don't ask me how I know. You can buy them on eBay cheap. Only problem is they are from China. The ones I got were good quality.

Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | A Helicoil will be the strongest by far. The easiest is a tap. If you opt for a tap, I recommend a forming tap not a cutting/machine tap. A forming tap will reform the threads instead of cutting material away. Good luck. |

New Bohemia, VA | I would replace the forks, or at least the lowers. That's a composite metal and I wouldn't want to take the chance of stressing and then it pops apart on me...

Beer Collins, Colorado (there is no fort) | There's not a lot of stress on the axle-the torque value is pretty low & the pinch bolts are what holds everything together-I would try simply chasing the threads with the correct size tap & die, HAND THREADING them together and as long as it torqued to spec you should be good. |

I'm thinking more of a catching a groove or smacking a curb and when you need all the help you can get, your front wheel flies off... I think too abstract at times, but stranger things have happened and it's too late to say, "well, I should have..." Don't ask me how I get these ideas.... |

| Did you try just running the bolt in from the out side to straight up the threads or is it to bad ?

| Thanks for some great insights. Not sure how this happened, I hand started and didn't seem resistant but when axle was maybe one thread from full insertion the wrench resistance dropped off significantly. I'll pull axle and use a thread gauge to validate thread. I'm convinced I want to use a coil repair since the alloy metal is not all that strong to start with. Plus the coil will all but eliminate any future problems from SS axle threading into aluminum. Glad to hear this does seem to have been a problems for others although not sure what learn from this. I'll post back what I find for coils and how it went...I guess I'm parked for the year
