I don't need no stinkin' test ride.

We sat on one, and that was good enough to sell us.

I have bought many new bikes without a test ride. Too hot right now anyhow.

They will have one in Memphis Wed, Thurs, Fri and maybe Saturday (Aug 22-25th).

Same deal.  Show only, no rides.  If you guys (and girls) have any requests for specific pictures or questions for the rep, let me know.  I will be his best friend for the next 4 days.  Not sure what model he will be on but I imagine it will be a loaded out Tour with all the bells and whistles.  I am 6' 4" so I will have the tall guys perspective of the bike but I am going to take multiple pictures of both pedals so that we can see the limits of adjustability.  Won't know if I need the taller windshield until I actually ride one.

If you guys (and girls) have any requests for specific pictures or questions for the rep, let me know.

1.  I currently own a J&M2003 CB/Weather Radio/Intercom handlebar-mounted communications system.  Is this the type of comm system the Vision will have, or will it be integrated into the dash or something? In other words, can I use the one I have without having to order a CB system?

2.  Is the GPS going to be the Garmin 2820 or last year's discontinued 2720?  If it is the discontinued one, why?

3.  Will the HID headlight be in addition to the stock high/low beam halogen?  I plan to install a headlight modulator with the regular light if it is.

Thanks

Lone Ranger,

I'll ask about the comm and GPS systems.  As far as the headlight goes, your modulators will work fine.  The HID is in the running light (small round light under the main headlight) only and is on a separate switch from the headlights.  The headlight on every bike is dual halogen bulbs.

SongFan,

I'm 6'4" and have pre-order a Vision. I would be VERY interested in your experince and opinions, especially the window shield height and heat around the cockpit. In looking at the design drawings it seems that they could duct off the frame/airbox to push or pull air from the engine compartment (maybe a silly thought, but a thought none the less).

Appreciate any insight, suggestions or comments.

Thanks V

Lone Ranger,

I actually downloaded the instruction/installation manual to your J&M 2003 system (very nice, by the way) and took it to the rep.  He held his hands up and made it clear that he was in no way a mechanic and wouldn't even venture a guess about compatibility with the Vision.  The safe answer is to wait until your dealer gets one and talk to the mechanic.  My gut tells me it is compatible but may need some kind of adapter from J&M.  Since it was a base model Street, there was no GPS onboard so I didn't have anything to look at with a model number on it.

Viking,

I couldn't ride it so I don't know about the windshield height or engine heat issues.  I do know that I have a 36" inseam and have all kinds of room to stretch my legs.  My heels actually rest on the front tipover shelf in front of the floorboard.  The only reason I could see for getting highway pegs is if there is in fact an engine heat issue.  Barring that, you won't need them.  I think they really detract from the lines of the bike (not to mention the lost cornering clearance) and should only be used as a last resort.

What in the hell are they thinking????

They just confirmed the "Seattle" location. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for THAT decision. Gee, there's the biggest bike Rally in Western Washington that day, so lets show off the new Vision as far away as we can from the Event, no where near a dealer. I'm sure the riding will be great, not as good as the roads around the Oyster Run area....... geeeeeez!!!!! As Bugs would say.. "What a Maroooooon!!!"

On the otherhand... they are doing the tests on two days and the Oyster Run is only Sunday. Of course the ANNUAL Dealer open house is Saturday so that's a little odd too.

Thanks for checking, SF.  I just went to my dealer today and asked about it.  He called someone at Victory who said mine may be compatible, but the one offered as an accessory is not handlebar-mounted.  It will have a bracket on the left bar with the buttons and controls, but the system itself will be hidden.  No problem - I'm okay with that.  I just didn't want to buy another if it was the same as I already had in hand.

Hiya, Viking. I'm also 6'4, but I only have about a 32" inseam, so most my height is in my torso. I took the ride in Detroit and found the standard windshield to be acceptable. The day of our ride it was raining pretty good, but from the chest down I didn't get wet at all. I got a little bit of rain on my face and upper chest, but nothing like what I get in similar situations on my Kingpin with windshield. On the highway with the shield all the way up I was well protected from wind/rain, and my passenger was, also. The taller shield appeared to be about 2-3" taller than the standard. I'm still debating very hard about getting mine with the taller one. I'm really leaning toward staying with the standard because I really like the fully retracted postition when riding in town.
