I have been very curious about going to the darkside for a while now. I called my insurance company today and asked them aboit coverage if i did switch to a car tire. They told me if i put a car tire on my bike and had a wreck it was on me they would not cover anything because i had something on there that wasent made for my bike.. i was wondering if anybody else had tjought about this situtation or had any expierence with this.

who's your insurance provider? You'd have to be an awfully darn good adjuster to notice a car tire on a motorcycle. That's like not insuring a pickup truck with a lift kit on it.

I had same concerns. From what I could find, any DOT approved tire is fine. Like I can run passenger tires on my truck.
There MIGHT be an issue if the insurance company can prove the tire caused the accident, but that would be nearly impossible.

katman --- Not only should you put a Car Tire on the back on your Motorcycle, you should also use Rotella motor oil.

Called the insurance company??!! Never involve The Man in a decision like that. Even though Monkeyman has the key to joy and happiness riding a Vision, Rotella and a darkside tire. Life is tranquil and the zen is balanced on a darkside bike with Rotella.

lol Don. So far seems to be a pretty reasonable thread, with the exception of your input.

Guess your insurance company would half to prove in court that the tire caused the problem.
Think of this you sue the insurance company and they drag it out for five or ten years you settle and wind up with nothing. Laugh yes they drag there feet your bills pile up and you get to the point you just want it to go away.
I have had a CT on for three years now and will not go back. I have been riding a long time and thank God all has been good.
So read the pros an cons and decide for your self don't let people you don't know influence your life.

Interesting. Your insurance company told you they wouldn't cover you if you have a DOT approved tire on your bike and you crash? My company (State Farm) told me the only requirement was that it be the proper weight load and have a DOT stamp.

Based on your company's comment it would be safe to assume they will fight any claim you submit not matter what kind of tires you have on your bike.

I think you're right. I looked at the sidewall on my Dunlop Winter Sport and it does not say "car tire" on it.

Talked to a Farmers agent about it he said if the tire is DOT approved it would be covered. Nowhere in the policy does it say anything about a car or motorcycle tire. I have about 6K on my Bridgestone and I have been very happy with it. The stopping distance is less and that has kept me out of 2 accidents with idiots.
