Subject: fuel pump whistle

started making a whistling sound today as it primed up. it's an 08 with 40,500 on it. Is this something to be concerned about? it started and ran fine all day.

maybe your gas cap is not tight or the gasket is bad.
If it was the pump whistling you would have a air leak and bike wouldn't run right.
So look at the cap

its an 08 vision , i put the cap on the same way. it started the noise this morning but it has started without this noise several times since I last put gas in it.

The gas cap being on, off or not tieght would have no effect. the tank is vented and does not build up pressure.

the gas cap is vented. Air goes to the highest point

Mine did the same thing. I was told it was a " impending bypass" and was replace 4 years into my 5 year warranty. Good luck

I called my dealer. My bike is warrentied through July 2014. They said they could replace it when it fails.

When???? How bout in front of a semi while merging? Or pulling thru a tight turn? Dangerous. It will fail, don't wait for it too. Just my humble.

what the service manager said was that they can't replace it under warranty until it fails.

Mine started doing it a couple of months ago. I had the dealer look and listen to it but as long as it is working the warranty will not cover it. My O8 warranty expired on December 7 so I am out of luck if it totally fails. Mine has almost 61,000 miles on it

Hmmmm I must have gotten lucky. Written up as a impending bypass was covered. Maybe request ur shop to submit with that verbage. Just a guess.
