Well i got to try out the linked brake system at full lock down today.  Made a left turn from a main 6 lane road to a 2 lane side road, i had just got the bike upright and was at 20 mph and accelerating from the lean and had to lock it down when some Yahoo cut in front of me.  I got that great smell and sound of hot sliding tire rubber.  Thank goodness the person in question accelerated instead of stopping.  We would have met in unfavorable circumstances.  But my Vision stayed straight and upright with no tire chatter or excessive dive.  Still love that bike.  Not sure about some people at times.

Well done!!! Had the opportunity to make that split second decision today as well, do I grap a handfull of brakes or do I just say to hell with it and run the light. I was out there among the masses, just having a good ride (at 55mph of course!) when I looked up and I'll be damned, that light turned!!! A quick look in the mirror and I grapped a big ol handfull of front brake and a big ol step on the rear pedal and WOW, I was at a stand still before I knew it!!!! Unlike other bikes I've had keeping the Vision upright was not ever a concern. All my senses told me STOP RIGHT NOW and not once did I think about heeping the bike upright, it just stayed up striaght, never got squirley or did anything unexpected. Quite nice I must say!!!!

Ride Safe, Ride Often!!

You two must be wrong. Everyone says the Vision MUST have ABS before they'd get one.
They say you can't sell a modern big bike without ABS. ABS is the nost important thing a
bike can have. Obviously, I dissagree. (o: Sure, I'd take it with, but I don't think ABS is
a must.

I miss the old days when bikes were simpler. Oh well, on to the question at hand.

I've never owned a bike with linked braking (or ABS, for that meter), so this is my first experience with it. So far I have not had any problems, but have yet to have a reason to lock them up (although I'm sure its just a matter of time given the yahoos out there). My concern with the linked system is this: is it possible to lock the rear wheel without locking the front (since the front supposedly uses only one of its 3 pistons when the rear brake is applied), or will you lock both wheels?

Like most, I have had occasion to lock up the rear wheel over my years of riding, but as always avoid locking the front. Is this still possible on the Vision? Specifically, can you stomp on the rear brake, lock up the back wheel and still maintain control? Seems like that is what I am hearing, but as I said, I still have not yet had an occasion to do it. I guess some weekend testing may be in order.

I highly recommend always doing some parking lot activities with ANY new bike. Familiarity is the key and only a few minutes goes a long long long ways. Once a month or so, I try to hit the local lot and crush my brakes just to keep in tune with the bike in the event. 15 minutes is all I need. Sometimes less.

The last thing you want to do is lock the rear wheel. OK, the second to last thing.

Wonder what the 0-60-0 or the 0-100-0 distance is for a Vision. Anyone know? Anyone want to find out?

I'll second Elroy's parking lot suggestion. Need to know the bike. Attempting to learn its limits 1/2 second prior to having to know....is too late.

Okay, I've locked the rear brake momentarily twice. Both times, it was the screeching sound that made me realized that I did so. Both times it was "controlled" quick hard braking, knowing that I would push it to that limit. The bike did not slip to either side and was straght on. As I said, if it wasn't for the sound, I would have never known the rear brake locked, the front never locked.

I have to agree with Varyder, that is what happened to me. I noticed the sound of the rear wheel, but never felt the front lock. I remember being breifly aware of my right hand and the amount of pressure. I released my grip as best i could considering the situation or panic as i remembered the foot brake was applying the front as well.
But again, the best thing to do is the parking lot exercises. Just as the MSF course suggests of better yet, take the MSF advanced rider course where you have to take your own bike. A good controlled environment with professionals watching you that actually know what they are looking at and can provide constructive criticism.

I too had to dynamite my linked brakes once so far. I was following my Dad on his Goldwing, as he was watching his GPS, and he ...stopped! I had to grab a BIG handful of front brake, and barked it with it turned! I would have gone down (and was riding two-up!) if I hadn't let go of the handlebars to let the front straighten out. Glad for years of experience. The linked brakes worked fine. I don't follow my Dad so close now.-----Metalguy

I use rear brakes more than front. Dont like to use fronts unless the forks are straight. Those that have been riding for a while know why. I have noticed less dive with the vision brake system. Never felt out of control. I have a better chance of chirping the rear tire by downshifting than stomping the brakes. Had my first experience with the rear wheel losing traction in water today. A little surprizing, but nothing the vision couldnt handle
