I have the 1" lowering link on my 2011 vision. I noticed in the service manual on belt tension and the Ness and 8 Ball Visions which are 1" lower have different belt tensions. Since their drop comes from the shock and mine from the link, I am confused as to which tension should I use?

Thanks,

Jim

Not sure about that. Using a shortened link, you still have the full travel distance for the shock. The Ness/8ball have less travel, thus the different #s.

Look at your geometry. Did your lowering link affect how far the wheel will drop when you have the rear wheel off the ground? If not, use the original adjustment process. If it does somehow limit how far it drops you will need to adjust the method accordingly.

Thanks for the tip, however I have no way to gauge how far the wheel was was before I installed the link. I will ask witchdoctors. Maybe they will have an idea.

just make sure it has some slack while at rest cold. That's all the adjustment I've been doing basically since the beginning. The belt gets tight when it's hot.

Witchdoctors doesn't know. Their tech adjusts by feel. I checked my belt and there is a little more than 1/4" of deflection cold with just my hand pressing on it. The reason I am concerned with the belt tension is I am getting a lot of belt roar when coasting to a stop from say 30mph to stop with the clutch in.

Thanks,

Jim

you have to check belt when cold in two or three places. I lowered mine 1" and I have about a 1/2" play. But I just go by feel

I have the adjustable rear link on my Vision, and when I lower it between 1"-3", my gas mileage drops about 3-4 mpg, and I'm sure it was due to excessive belt tension. I loosened my belt tension somewhat (I'm not worried at all about a belt that is a little too loose on my bike), and my mileage has returned to normal again. It must be close... right!? lol!
