After a long wait, I finally had time to install new pipes on my 2009 Vision which are CFR slip ons. After
some wrangling with removing the stock mufflers, I installed the new ones, tightened the clamps on
muffler/header transition then fired it up. I put my hand near the clamps and I could feel puffs of
exhaust at the muffler/header connection on both sides. I tightened the clamps again pretty much as tight
as they can go but I'm still feeling exhaust escaping.
My question: is this normal after installing new mufflers i.e. will this lessen after time? If not, how do I
get a better seal?

I know this will sound funny but use permatex copper ultra it is heat resistant to 700F. Pull the muffler and put a small bead around the lead edge before you slip the muffler back on and that will seal it back up.
It seems to be working on my thrush mod so far. I also used muffler clamps from the parts store. |

Pittsburgh, PA | did you replace the exhaust gaskets before you installed the New exhaust? it is not normal and this will cause the popping and exhaust noises that people on here so badly Hate! |

No. Since the CFRs are slip-ons, I didn't have to loosen the headers from the cylinders.
I did read up more on the Permatex Copper Ultra and it seems it would do the trick. My
only concern is down the road. If I ever needed to remove the mufflers again, wouldn't
the sealer make it extremely difficult to remove?

New Bohemia, Va | No, it shouldn't make it difficult since the pipes are split. I few side to side and up and down moves you can wiggle it off. Also, amen on the exhaust gaskets. Use Lloyds softer gaskets and not the stock from Victory. Also make sure your ends are smooth and flat, not like mine were. |

| Hey pull the mufflers and put more cross cuts in the ends. For some reason sometimes they just don't squish enough to seal.
Gaskets have nothing to do with mufflers what so ever. |

Grand Cane, LA | I have the CFR mufflers also and I found that you need to not insert them in quite as far as they will go. The clamps need to be close to the end of the head pipes also. If they are too far up they will not squeeze the splits enough to seal. Enjoy your new mufflers, I certainly have on mine. |

Gettysburg, 2008 Tour Premium | The clamps can even be slightly over the edge of the muffler end to help seat it up. Mine did the same thing but seems to have sealed itself up. The Permtex stuff works OK, I have used it in the past. |

| Thanks for the replies everyone. I did apply the Permatex and also tightened the clamps on the leading edge of the muffler splits. Let it set a few hours(basically the time it took to put everything back on the bike(those saddlebag lower panels are a pain in the ***)) and started it up. No Leaks, not
even after a short ride around town. And yes, I'm very happy with the CFR's. Deep sound without a huge increase in decibals.
