Periodically, my tach and speedo needles don't work on startup.  All of the other gauges, readouts work.  If I run the bike for a while, stop and restart, the tach and speedo needles resume functionality.

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

It is on it's 3rd battery.

I doubt it is the battery cables, else all of the other electrical accessories would not work (lights, gauges, horn, radio, CB, heated grips, heated seats, etc.)

It's the ignition switch. click it back & forth a few times, a shot of wd40 once in a while helps. happened to me last year.

I agree, TimS, the igni switch. Pull your console too and check your connections. I've not had your particular issue, but had something like it on the radio and all it was the connector wasn't snapped tight.

I've had that exact issue, a recall was issued to fix this. I. Had the recall work done and it came back. They redid the recall work and so far it hasn't malfunctioned again at this time. The recall involved placing a rubber stopper underneath the ignition switch. Check it out and make sure it is snug. You'll have to pull the radio control panel. If there is no rubber stopper under there then the recall was not done.

Do you have any recall info (or approx date of issue)?  I will check with the dealer.

My 08 was one of the early ones in CA.  Got it November of 2007.  Never had any recall work done on it.

TIA

The recall was in early 2008. My dealer actually called me to tell me about it, and had the mechanic do it as soon as I pulled into the dealership. It takes maybe 15 minutes.

There was an issue with some of the early switches having the electrical part come loose from the mechanical part. The "fix" is a rubber wedge to keep the two parts from separating.

luterdan - 2013-11-08 4:19 AM http://recallrecord.com/auto/victory/vision/ I found this.....

The second one sounds like the one, but it also indicates total loss of power which is not what is happening to mine.  Just the speedo and tach needles.

I have the fix by recall and that is all it is, a plastic ring and a foam wedge. I love the bike and all, but I find that fix to be one of the worse in history. It is a pain every time I work on the bike to pull the ignition switch and then make sure the ring and wedge is in there. I have a new switch, but I don't know if I need it now or not because the switch came from another bike, so it's there for good measure.

I had the very same symptom recently on a trip. Everything functioning normally. Getting back on th eroad after a fuel stop, the tach and speed along with the gear indicator was not working. Come to find out there was corrision on the positive batery cable. I disconnected the cables, cleaned and scrapped them off the best I could. I reconnected them and everything was good. When I got back home I thourghly cleaned them and appllied electrical connector grease.
