I have always worn Nike type shoes to ride and have never had any problems doing so. I recently started wearing a riding boot to compensate for my short legs. The boot gives me an additional half to 3/4 inch. The problem I have now is that I used to be able to slide my foot under the shift lever. With the boots, I cannot get under it to upshift. Is this a coomon thing when wearing boots or am I missing something ? It feels difficult to shift now whereas before it was effortless to upshift. Any thoughts or ideas ?

The shift lever is attached to an adjustable linkage.

as tarpits said, loosen the nuts on your shift linkage and turn the linkage rod. You'll notice the shift pedal adjusts to give you more height.

Your manual will tell you how to and if you want to move the shifter forwards or back the book will tell you that to.

Just drag your foot to grind some sole off. Do a little at a time until it fits under the shifter. Then take an equal amount off the other boot. Problem sloved. Worked for me, and the smoke comming off your boots at 80 is awsome!

Put a toe/heel shifter on your bike. I'm 6'2" with a 35' inseam and still use one. Always have.
