62,000 and counting on the original belt...

Kept in adjustment and rode year round. Yeah Its Southern California.

I have on the way prior to my trip in the heat to Prescott meet.

Pre-mature or about time?

Will it go much further?

So for those of you who wonder if it will go this far, Yes it can!

inspect it thoroughly, like put it up on the lift and spin the tire looking at every inch. If it looks good, I'd say your good for 100,000+. I changed mine at 45,000 and wish I didn't, on the second belt at around 52,000 and I have no plans to change it soon, and it's messed up from the pulley wear. Call me crazy, but we'll see. I'm thinking of putting the original back on and run it another 20,000 miles or so before buying a new one. I believe age is the biggest killer of belts. A belt 4 years old with 80,000 miles is in better shape than a belt 8 years old with 40,000 miles on it IMHO.

I know that you have ride in some more extreme "cold" temps than I have and "A belt 4 years old with 80,000 miles is in better shape than a belt 8 years old with 40,000 miles on it " I would agree. Like vehicle tires that have good tread but are cracking due to age. 96 k NICE!

So Now I am in a quandry since I did inspect recently and it looked darn good, only a few pieces of road grime from a recently tar and gravel road.

OK Victory Techs whats your take?

Without some visible sign of wear, my opinion would be, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Are belts are made by gates. Harley runs the same belt we do just shorter. Top fuel dragsters run a gates belt for there blower. If you watch the dirt roads you ride on and stay off the pee rock seal coated roads you should be good for a 100 thousand. Clean the belt and most of all check the pulley defects it will shorten the belt life more then riding. Once the belt is adjusted you should never have to adjust it again. A friend who only does oil changes and lets the rest of the bike take care of its self sold off his bike with a 140 thousand on the original belts. He ran into the new owner that had another 57 thousand on it and has done nothing to the bike but ride it. When harley first came out with the belt they said change every 25 thousand now they say inspect every 25 thousand. There is one thing if you take the belt off mark witch way it was going. Its like a radial tire if you change directions the belt will not last very long.

There was talk of a pair of Victory's running the roads of Orange county NY burning tires at every stop on a poker run until one of them blew a belt.

Did not see it ,do not know the details ,just was told this.

My response "You know how much that back tire costs to replace ? You won't see me burning it anytime soon."

I know that the Victory's we ride are probably manufactured to a much higher standard than the H-D competition but I have friends who ride H-D, ride just as hard as some here, and they say that H-D specifies a 100,000 mile replacement on the belt unless damaged. Now, these belts are basically timing belts and on my old Honda GL1500 Goldwing the INSPECTION period was every 50,000 miles with no replacement unless damaged or contaminated by oil. That said, I'll ride mine until it breaks and then use AAA to get to a dealer where they can install a new one.
