Last year I went from an open face helmet to a flip-up. Besides the added protection I fell in love with the other attributes as well, like being able to hold a conversation without screaming into the mic and staying dry in a downpour. What I didn't like was the 'fishbowl' effect on a hot sunny day. At times it felt as though my face was melting off. Thinking about it over the winter I ordered a new front shield for my helmet. I ordered one of those silver, reflective shields. What a huge difference. The silver seems to reflect all the sun's rays and keeps the inside very cool.

Just thought I would pass that along in case anyone was wondering about the effect.

Just keep in mind that after dark that slivered shield is like wearing about a #4 welders glass particualrly on secondary roads and country roads where the lighting (if any) is usually crappy-that's why about the first thing I did when I bought my old VENTURE ROYALE was to ditch the brown tinted windshield for a clear one I hated standing on the boards to see over it @ night.
