I have a 30G I-Pod Classic(I think!) - It plays video and looks like other 5th Gen Classics. I have the proper
I-Pad cable for it which also came with a connector that is supposed to fit older models. I don't need the connector for my I-Pad, as it plugs directly to the standard I-Pad cable. My problem is that after about 30 min. of playback it freezes. I've tried unplugging it, rebooting it - and it works fine till it plays for 30-45 minutes. Is it possible that this unit won't work with my VV? I've read here where certain "Classics" will get fried on this bike because of their internals; could this be what is happening? Bad I-Pod? I dunno!!

Isn't this one of the disc drive models? The solid state ones are shock proof. The hard drive models are not good on the bikes .so I've heard.

Can't use the classic. You have to use a Nano (the one with the flash memory). The classic has a hard drive and the vibration will cause that to happen.

I've been checking and it is a 5th Generation(late 2006 model).
Can I retrofit the plug so it works with my nano?

That's what I run. With that version, you do NOT need the new cable. It won't hurt to have it either.

I had the old cable and bought the new so IF I upgraded it would be ready.

Using the Classic will cause freezing ... until it fails. Have you read the PDF below? There is information in the PDF on why that is happening.

Also it goes over which cable does what for the different year model Visions out there.

John,

Thanks. I figured a little of the stuff out myself (like the playlist order is alphanumeric) but most of it I collected from the good people here on Vision-Riders.com.

I would not mind one bit if Jeff and Miles wanted to store it here on Vision-Riders.com. The only issue is....I like to update it every year because of the new cables and features that show up.

Maybe I can make it an article? Who knows?

RT - Currently we have your iTunes setup thread in the Tech Ref section in which you have a link to the pdf. Since you have edit access to that thread, consider adding it as an attachment. It will be available to all as a download. In the future if you wish to update it, just go in and attach the new version in the same manner.

Excellent stuff there; just a lot of great info! I plugged in my 8G Nano, and have been good ever since. Coon beans.
