I have a 10th Anniversary Vision with factory installed 2820. Today, the voice prompts stopped halfway through a trip. I have no sound at all, even when I fire up the bike, no bing that you get when the gps is activated. I also tried calling my phone that is blue-toothed with the 2820, it shows the call coming in, but no ringing. Tried everything, volume is up, mute is off, etc. I touched nothing during the trip, this just seemed to happen randomly. I have talked to Garmin, they have never seen the problem and said they do not repair 2820's anymore. I also tried the 2820 with the car kit to make sure it was not a Vision problem and again, no voice prompts. Everything works perfect except the voice prompts. Anyone else seen this, have suggestions or a 2820 for sale. I am riding with a friend on Thursday who has a 2820, I am going to try his on my bike and see if the voice prompts work.

Are you on a trip? Can you try it in a car and see if there is still no sound?

I am home, tried it with the car kit, still not sound. Another question to all, will the 2720 work with the 2820 mount and existing wiring on the Vision.

Yes, I have a 2720 and it works fine. I think the difference is the 2820 has MP3 and bluetooth which the 2720 lacks.

If it still does not work in the car I suggest resetting the unit and see if it comes back... I know this might sound like a dumb question, but, did you mute it by accident?

I checked the mute first, it is off. I am waiting for more responses before a total reset as I will lose all my favorite destinations.

If you plug it into your computer and send all of your data from your gps to your computer, you will not loose anything...

I bought a Garmin and got about four trips out of it over the course of 3/4 of a year or so and now it claims it can't locate satellites. The Garmin website is no help (at least that's what my wife says!) so since I bought the thing at Costco, I'm kind of in a pickle about who to take the thing to to see if it's broke or what. I'm not aware of any contract that might need to be renewed, so I conclude that it's a piecs of s**t, like that other posters Ness drive pully. And every other thing I've bought in the last ten years with an electrical plug coming out of it. Y'know, you spend dough trying to keep up, but when this crap doesn't work, it makes me want to @#$%^&* )(_+*/#@$. Or something like that.

At least the Jukebox starts and runs. At least 'till I said that...Uh oh-here comes the snow...guess that's that for awhile.

$170 for repair? Can't you get a new one for that? Whatta rip!

John:

They quoted me $170 and it includes a refurbished 2720 in exchange for my 2820. For some reason they still do repairs on the 2720, but not on the 2820. Go figure, the 2820 came out after the 2720 I think.

They will give you a refurbished, but if you don't have an unlock code for that specific one good luck getting the maps to work. I had to do some things garmin would not want to here about for me to get it to work. If you go that route and need help pm me.

When I've talked to Garmin support directly (and I have several times as I've been using Garmin products for at least 10 years now), they have always been stellar, even when the device was no longer in production. If you talked to Garmin, and didn't get satisfaction, I would call back and speak to someone else.

I put a friends 2820 on my bike yesterday, voice worked perfectly. This proved the sound driver portion of GPS went bad. I have confirmed through some other friends and the internet that this does happen, not often but sometimes. Thanks for all the input, I am waiting for Garmin to come back with another solution as $170 for a used 2710 with no bluetooth is not a good trade in my opinion.

I don't have a 2820 but does it have a jack for external speakers/earbuds?  I had a cellphone speaker go out and when I took it in to get fixed the kid behind the counter got a can of compressed air and blew it into the hole for the headphones.  The speaker worked perfectly after that.  He said that crud will get in there and cause a short that makes it think headphones are plugged in and cuts out the speaker.

Worth a shot if you have an external speaker jack.

Song Fan, thanks for the tip. I have had several iphones with that exact problem. I did try headphones in the 2820, no sound. Also, plugged in the jack and removed several times, still nothing. I am convinced the sound driver portion of the GPS is shot.
