I have a 2003 Vegas with 40,000 miles I have owned since new. I will retire in a few years and plan on touring the country. I had planned on buying a cross country victory. I test road one and it did not have a easy handling like my Vegas. I was disappointed. So now my plan is to use my Vegas. I have a mustang seat, windshield,, bags, luggage rack. When I first owned it i did a 1000 mile trip. Stock seat nearly killed me. The tube tires are a touring problem(patching on the road). What are your thoughts on Vegas touring? My Vegas has been very very good to me!

As this is a Vision site, you might want to think about trying a Vision?

Up to you. The Vegas is certainly capable of touring. A bike designed specifically for touring is going to be heavier, but more comfortable and more user friendly though, especially if you're going to take some serious trips.

We took several trips on our 2000 SC, which is equipped with Mustang seat, windshield, backrest and luggage rack, and hard saddlebags. It was fine until we got our Vision. There is no comparison in comfort or utility between the decked out SC and the Vision. I love them both, but the Vision goes on the trips. The SC comes out for the short rides now.

Go on trip with someone who has a Vision and swap bikes for about 200 miles, if you can get them off their Vision for that long. You might decide to get your Vegas a Cross Country or Vision to share the garage.

check out this thread, Steve did some iron butts on his kingpin and I don't see why not on a Vegas. So you know, Steve rides a Vision 8-Ball now. There was also some folks that did a little blog about their trip across the lower half of canada on a moped, so its all you want to put up with and the reliability of the machine. Me, I love the Vision and its more comfortable than my easy chair.

My wife rides a Vegas and keeps up with me very nicely on all of our adventures. She does want an Vision 8-ball however... someday, when I stop buying her chrome goodies for her Vegas...

I owned a Vegas for 5 years and loved every mile including some long vacation rides. I kept upgrading it with touring ammenities but it always seemed to need more to be comfortable on long trips. When Vic came out with the XC I knew it was the ultimate bike for me. I test rode one and was instantly impressed with the handling of the one I road however not being used to a fairing on a bike it seemed really strange at first (almost intimidating because you don't see the road directly in front of you). My Vegas handled great but my XC handles awsome once you overcome the seemingly bigger bike. I recommend you take another test ride and give it another chance. Loved my Vegas but I love my XC a whole lot more.

Road trip on a Vegas? Yes!!!
I had a 2004 Vegas and did 3 longer road trips on it and a lot of shorter trips. No problems on any of the trips.

The longest trip was the IBA 48 states in less than 10 days ride.

My favorite trip was Milwaukee to Tijuana. The first day was over 1500 miles.

The first trip was Milwaukee to Las Vegas with a few stops in Colorado and Utah. Day one was over 1000 miles.

I would do any road trip on a Vegas!

Check out these trailers, they might make touring on the Vegas more comfortable and still handle the way you like.

Like mentioned above, did you check out the cross country? That looks like a sweet bike. I would have strongly considered it if I didn't want the trunk, heated seats/grips, and other little extras you get with a vision.

Taking a long trip on any thing is fun but you know how comfortably a bike rear is when you come home have a good night sleep and then ride another two hundred miles the next day.
I had a harley dresser and did a three thousand mile trip and when I came home didn't get back on it for two weeks.
I have a vision now and did a twenty five hundred mile trip cam home and the next day did three hundred miles and never felt beat up or warn out.
I think for me a big bike is way more comfortable in the long run.

I've ridden my Jackpot on several 500 mile trips and enjoyed it (except that one time I rode in the rain for 2 hours). But the Vision is still the best for the long trip.

Maybe I don't understand the question. But I don't see how tube tires would be a problem on the road. They have been around since the beginning, and they are easier to patch than a tubeless.

Well, in the "old" many riders rode to Sturgis on Triumphs and Nortons and many other makes of only 650cc or so. My '03 CC was a GREAT bike but the extras I get from my Vision are well worth it.
Any decent sized bike can be used for touring as long as you are comfortable with it. You might be happier with a XR than a XC? Go out and try them all all. Maybe try some other makes to compare them with. 40,000 miles on your Vegas is just broken in.

Thanks for info on using my Vegas. All you need now is a trip from florida to Alaska. A friend of mine did the Alaska trip a few years ago. Made within 100 miles of the finish, but the haul road wore him out. He was on a BMW.

What kind of seat do you have and it looks like you replaced the wheels?

ck out a vision if you are planing on touring the country. in sept of 2010 i rode my vision 865 miles in one day and that same wk put on 2500 miles and could have kept on going. just warmed up the vision today in idaho and rode a few miles and could have kept going at 0 degrees heated seat heated grips i know what a puss but i got back on my vtx1800 and took it for a spin and wow what a bike the vision is. JUST GO TEST RIDE A VISION IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE THAT ALREADY. TRY TO GET A TEST RIDE THAT YOU CAN TEST FOR 15 TO 30 MILES.
