Had the copilot get my 08 licensed in AZ today as the 25$ ND tags were up. For what she paid ($300) I could have got 12 years in ND. The tag price is based on the MSRP wich they said was 20,000. Paid less than that and got a 5 year warranty with it. So two questions, anyone want to buy a 2008 with 20K miles for $ 20,000 and what do other states charge for tags.

A fixed annual fee of $46 in IL...went up from $39 last year.

However, I think both IA and IN are similar to what you are describing. A variable annual fee based on vehicle weight and list price. What a crock! Glad I live on the IL side of the Mississippi River. At least it's one small advantage.

I think I spent about $130.00 for my personalized plates, which are permanent plates in Montana. I won't have to buy plates for my Vision again!

No - I know you're just jokin' on selling an '08 for 20K. In va I pay county tax every year and $35.00 I think for the plate renewal, with vanity plate. Cost of ownership....

Long, complicated story here in Washington State. If you live in the Seattle metroplex (Pierce, King, & Snohomish Counties-that's Tacoma, Seattle, or Everett) yo get to be subjected to extortion from the RTA Regional Transit Authority. The RTA runs inter county bus and rail services, Sound Transit and Sounder commuter trains, plus very expensive by the track foot, light rail. That assessment makes you pay an excise tax to pay for the system, last year, with the ego plate on the bike, my tab was $130.00 and the Wrangler was $100.00.
Since I've moved out of the tri county area the Jeep dropped to $45.00 and I'll find out about the bike in August. Now our Grinch of a Governor wants to clap on a tax to support the poorly run, and way over cost ferry system (that's another very complex - run away cost story) whether you ride the boats or not, if you can smell salt air, we'll tax you.
The background to all of this is, about 12 years ago the citizens passed an initiative to cut our 'based on value' car tabs, people driving BMW's paid in some cases, $1800.00 a year while a guy driving a 64 Chevy paid about $60.00. The innitiative put a cap on tabs @ $30.00 no matter what you drove, that's when the 'special' assessments started.
Everyone in the state gets all wigged out when the legislature proposes a state Income Tax, but if they did, they would be forced to give up all the little sniper taxes they collect now, so I'm not worried about that.

Every county is different in California, but most are based on blue book. I just paid $291 for normal plates in Riverside county.

At $15.50 I guess I found something NYS is not the most expensive in.
