I test rode a Victory Vision Touring Premium yesterday, love the styling, performance, and handeling of the bike. I didn't really like the sound of the bike with the stock pipes. the dealer had another 100 CU with the Stage 1 Level 1 which sounded a little better, but did have that deep throat-ie sound.

Does the Tail Gunner tips have any affect on this and does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Thanks

I have the Stage 1 Level 1 pipes and feel it has a deep throaty sound. It's pretty melow at idle but opens under acceleration and higher rpm's. I have also riden my bike with and without the Tail Gunner tips and have found no difference in sound.

I ordered (and they came in) Tail Gunner tips.
I just liked the look of them.

As for as louder sound (tuned or not). I never was into it.
HOWEVER, after I hear the sound of some of the other Visions that could change. I have always liked fast and quiet (stealth).

I'm a little confused with the 100 cu. in., Vision motors are 106 cu. in. The Stage 1 Level 1 muffler is a straight through muffler with a sound core at the end. There are no baffles in the muffler. Below are pictures of the muffer and you can see the core at the end. If your looking for a louder sound, you may want the Stage 1 Level 2 mufflers. The Level 2 are a chrome slip on muffler and you cannot (according to Victory) use the "tailgunner tip" with Level 2. Oh and they are back ordered.
I do believe someone with a good welder you could modify the stock or Level 1 muffers to achieve a different sound. The muffler is hidden under the heat shield, so cutting and welding the muffler would not show.

I have the same bike (tour-premium) with the stage one level 1 tailgunner exhausts. They installed them and re-mapped. Sounds WAY better. They put the tailgunner tips (seperate purchase) on upside down, but it doesn't affectd anything. Mostly worried about rain getting in there. Right now, they look pretty good to me. When I take it in for service, they're going to reverse them. Seems like it looks just great either way. I'm getting a little pop once in a while, but not sure if it was a mapping issue or what. Nothing that really concerns me at this point. Again, they sound GREAT!

Can you post a picture of the up side down tailgunners. I can't figure out how they attached them to the muffler.

VisionTex,

If you look at the end of the pictured muffler above, you will see a flange that goes 1/2 way around the tail end of the muffler.  This flange has 3 bolt holes in it.  This is what the tail-gunner tips attach to using 3 bolts.  The tail-gunner tips are real easy to install.

If you look at your stock tips, you will see they are also held on by these same 3 bolts.

Not sure myself. Looks like there are 3 different ways they could have them installed. The "long" part at the bottom, side or on top. They put the fin (think 1957 chevy) on the bottom. If you look under "accessories" for 2008, you'll see a picture of the tailgunner tip. That picture looks like the fin has been placed closest to the bike. All 3 ways are probably O.K.

To get the tips "upside down" swap the left and right exhaust slip on...

So Cal
I heard from a reliable source that the level 2's are being held up by Ca CARB. Ca has their own certification program (hence the $100 extra charge).
