I was about to change my oil last night when, low and behold, the drain plug will not come out.The entire plug moves,it spins in a circle but will not come loose nor will it tighten down.Has this happened to anyone else? How do i take care of this? is this something that is common?

you need to visit your dealer as it is stripped. they will have to tap a new one in place of the stripped one. not a big deal

If you are up to a self repair Arizona Victory sells a repair kit, Pep Boys carries a kit that looks the same for a tenth of the price, or you can use Heli Coil, or a Time-Sert kit. I used the Heli Coil which was pretty straight forward and easy, but now to get a good seal considerably more torque is required on the plug. To do again I would likely use the Arizona kit. Biggest pain was getting the old one out

One hint if you go to tap the pan apply some grease to the tap so that any metal shavings attach to it rather than ending up in the crankcase.

Sorry that you had to join the club. Good luck.

While this isn't common in the 106" motors it is quite common in cars. Any mechanical shop can easily take care of it, probably cheaper than a Victory dealer. Or as already mentioned....you can do it yourself somewhat easily.

Are you inclined to try to get the bolt out your self? If so go to http://www.ehow.com/how_5127433_use-easy-outs.html
They tell you step by step. Or swing by sears they have some good tools. Buy your self "new" drill bits and don't be cheap when you do. I would even try a vice grip and see if I could put some kind of angle pressure on the bolt while trying to un screw it even use a screw driver between the motor and the drain plug or a claw hammer applying down pressure. But don't apply so much as you bust you case. Check the web out on how to's your not the loan ranger when it comes to this.
Your smarter then the part is so you can do it.

Yes, this is something that can happen to any of us Kornbread. I'm sure you can figure it out from the suggestions, or take it to your dealer and let them do it. If you do it yourself, be sure to flush it some with oil before refilling to catch any chips that might go up in the case. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Purchase a left hand drill bit. Plug will back itself out before you drill through it. No shavings in engine to worry about. These bits can be found at Harbor Freight or Northern Tool or possibly at your local haardware store.

Might not be a bad idea, or a left handed drilling screw extractor, once it bites a little pulling force while turning may allow the threads to grab and allow the plug to come out.

Since this very thing was a big fear of mine, on my first change, I carefully made sure that I got the factory plug out, and then replaced it with a standard head, magnetic plug. No more stripping worries. However, I make sure to use Polaris crush washers, since they fit perfectly.

I have decided to have the dealer conduct the removal. It will save me from using words that I would prefer my wife and children not hear. Thanks for all the advice.

hey guys... I bought a timesert kit for this very reason...100.00 with 5 timeserts for the job, 4 left. if anyone is in a bind, ill ship it to you so you can use it, send it back when you are done. crappy situation, makes it worse when you drop coin on something you will only use once. Let me know if you need it, autograph the box and send it back

Is this common on these engines, stripping the drain plug?
If going by the specs for torquing, is the torque reference to high?

Currently, considering the 2011 Vision Tourer and have done all past maintenance on my bikes.
This will be my first American bike.

The torque specs are fine.  If you do your own work you'll have no problem.  I haven't heard of a single stripped plug where a torque wrench was used.  I asked about the Time-Sert size as a worst case scenario back-up on a long trip.  My plug is still fine at 48,000.  Use a new crush washer every oil change.

sleeperhawk, don't worry about it if you do your own maintenance. My dealer's shop mechanic stripped mine out.

What size Time-Sert kit fits our oil plug?

The Timesert kit for the Vision is the 1215c for a #12x1.5 with a 9.2mm long insert.
The seller I got it from on ebay has it for $94.29 shipped.
