Hello,

I am looking for advice on a Vision purchase. I am looking at at 2008 Vision Street premium with 10K miles. It is priced 2 $13,000.

First, is this a fir price?

Second, what if any, issues does the Vision have that I should watch for. Since 2008 is the first year, are there any problems that were fixed in 09 or 010? Any reason I should stay away from the inaugural model?

Thanks

Just turned over 36,000 miles on my 08 which amounts to 1,000 miles a month since I bought it. Mine was the 450th one built and I like it more now than when it was new. Last week I went on a trip to Myrtle Beach and did 1,000 miles in 4 days and I am ready for Daytona Beach for Bike Week in March!!! I have never put it in a trailer and don't intend to and with all the chrome and cams on mine I have spent close to 25,000k on mine so I think the price is fair. I had a Kawi Nomad before and the Vision is as good as the Jap bike!!! I have had minimal problems and recommend the bike to anybody. There have been improvements but once you get the cams from Gatorx, who will loose to the DOGS next week, you will not regret it....

At $13k - I see another VTX convert. Cost is all about supply and demand, and if I can only find 3 used Street Premiums in the USA on cycle trader, then I would jump on it.

Don't worry about the inaugural model, the engine and drivetrain have been around from some time.

To say Victorys are as good as Jap bikes means I would have gotten a Jap bike if they are the bar Victorys are trying to reach, but I didn't. These bikes are in a class all thier own, and it is the Jap bikes that are trying to be as good as Victorys.

There is not much different between the 08-10. They added a reverse in late 10'. The VV are a well made bike. You will get some of the common problems that alot of the bikes have. Just spend some time reading the forums. Thats a great price on a great bike. Jump on it ... you wont be sorry.

+1. 10,000 miles means it's just barely broken in. Take the VIN number to a dealer and see if the recalls concerning the ignition switch and circuit breaker have been done. They're free if they haven't already been done. My 2008 has been rock solid, and is without a doubt the best bike I have ever owned.

I think the price is really great for you...but for me it is too low. I'm just saying I wish the used value of the Vision would hold up a little higher. Anyway for you the bike is great, and this site will be very useful for you to gain knowledge about the Vision. Hope you get it.

Welcome aboard. I think that is a good price for the bike. I've been watching eBay and found that you are right at about what a lot of the bikes are going for PLUS shipping/pickup costs. You might get a little better deal online if you want to waste a lot of time since it is the model without the trunk, but you are looking at a decent deal. Especially considering the low milage. Hopefully those miles have been spread out over the life of the bike and it hasn't been sitting around for that last couple years. That's gotta be the big killer in ATV/RV's is that letting them sit around kills them. That being said, there are a few things that I'll list which I have noted by talking to Victory techs, watching this forum and experiencing first hand. So... 3 issues to look for in an 08' that could be pricey:
The recalls are pretty painless if they haven't been performed yet and every vehicle goes through some. I wouldn't even worry about those items until after I made a purchase. All are POTENTIALLY hazardous since that is the actual criteria that is used to justify a SAFETY RECALL. My opinion is that none of them will probably kill you but buyer beware and Murphys Law go hand in hand, so just use your better judgement. In fact it might be to your benefit to find out if they weren't done so you could use them as an excuse to haggle. There is a link here that shows the product recall page if you do a quick search in the forums.
-One problem that I have had 2 dealership mechanics admit is that there was a run of problamatic rear pulleys. The pulley is not under recall since it is not a safety problem that Victory would be forced to fixing. You will know right away if this is a potential problem for yours because it will chirp/squeel when you load up the bike's engine while riding. I say "POTENTIAL" becuase this symptom also occurs when the pulley is misaligned. You will have to take a caliper or something fairly accurate to the pulley and measure the distance between the pulley fences to make that determination IF you have squeeling problems. I had mine replaced under Victory's "1/2 warranty program". Basically that means they sent me the part under warranty after I complained about it mercilously and proved that there was a problem (with a set of calipers), then I had to pay for wrenching.
-The next is notorious for 08 (maybe 09 too but not sure about that). The radio reception is pretty close to worthless. They fixed this later on but there is NO warranty or recall for that item. It is what it is and the fact is that the radio reception plain SUCKS. It does not indicate that there is a real problem with your perspective bike, since every bike that year has it. You can either "embrace the suck" and get over it like I have done lately or you can buy a later replacement radio with core exchange. A quick search of the forum and that topic is pretty well covered too. Again, it's not a safety problem that Victory will ever be forced to recall so they won't.
-The next potential problem does not affect everyone but the people it does affect (like myself) could spend a fortune to get replaced. That's the front headlight housing allowing moisture to penetrate and hazing the lens. The light is not under recall since it is not a safety problem (for most). Some bikes have it and some don't. The worst part is that those that do are not going to get a warranty repair until the light fails to work altogether. If you do a search, you'll see where another member of this forum forced the issue until Victory replaced it under their "1/2 warranty program". This defect is noted by a hazy spots inside the lens. Functionally it does not really affect the operation of the lights, but it just plain looks like $hit and drives some of us nuts.
If the bike was new, I would tell you to look out for a few things with setup (air in brake lines, mis-aligned saddlebags, etc.). Being used, these are all easily fixable by someone in their driveway so it's not a big deal. It would just be easier to have the dealership fix it for you before you drive home. I would have went that route if someone had explained it to me before I bought my bike. As soon as this reply is posted, there will be rebuttals from other members that will probably claim that I'm full of $hit on 1 or 2 issues. I really don't care as I am offering you an unbiased opinion based on previously stated criteria. All-in-all 08' is a great bike. I would have to say that it pretty much trumps the other "American" brand but I think you are doing a good job by becoming an informed consumer and finding out what to look for. The only thing I would buy right up front is a gel cell or ACM battery. I say that because I know that I was guilty of not trickle charging mine. I really didn't care since I think the old wet cell batteries are garbage in this day and age of better batteries. It's just good peice of mind.
Good luck
-Will

If you found this site, you can read the good and the bad about Victory. JD power gives them a very high rating also. Me, I don't like my vision, I LOVE IT.

I have an 08 VV since new, 12,000 miles, no problems.  I love the bike.  The only thing I don't like is radio reception sucks.  The Forum says I can replace antenna with aftermarket to correct that, but haven't tried it yet.

I bought my 08 this year in March.....tonight when I got off it at work the odometer said 28,6XX miles....its been everywhere.....no issues.

I paid $16,200 for an 08 Tour Premium hold over on the dealer floor with the 5 year warranty.

The used market....well, there just isnt one for the most part. I suspect 13K is a fair price.

I've got an '08 that I've had for 3 years this month, averaging about 2,300 miles a month on it that I'd sell you for $30,000 and I'll even throw in a new set of tires and a belt that has 45,000 miles on it and still looks brand new. The price is firm too, so don't try to dicker with me if you PM to inquire about it.

+1....

My '08 has only about 25,000 miles, but I agree with VARYDER,
$30,000.00 firm is a good price and nothing extra, like tires , belts etc...
