Anybody with HID lights have an issue with radio reception after the install. I used to get some static on my 2008 when the HID was on with AM. Never noticed it on FM. The PIAA system I just put in totally wipes out AM reception and interferes with FM also. I'm going out now to move the ballast. I have it mounted to a hunk of aluminum next to the fuse box.

Please pardon the obvious....., but is the antenna fully connected. You may have disturbed it or forgot ( not me, of course ) to reconnect it. Just sayin'......

Good luck and let us know what it was.

Lol. It's connected. It receives fine till I fire up the HID. May put an aftermarket antenna in. I tried calling PIAA but they are closed till Monday.

Did you move the ballast? From what I've read, that seems to do the trick on most. Or buy an iPod. I rarely use the AM/FM although I'm ready to try out the weather band (if I can just remember I have it).

I seldom ride with the PIAA on, but I don't remember having any interference. I will check it when it gets back from its 30k service.Come to think of it, I seldom ride with the radio on, and never AM. lXM or MP3.
Ballast reposition or maybe insulate the high voltage HID wires. Silicone tape would do well.

Ok, checked mine and it has the same issues on radio stations with weak signals. If you get a response from PIAA let me know. Must be because of the proximity to the antenna.. I take it this isn't an issue with Victory OEM HID? I If I used the radio more, I would contemplate relocating the antenna to the trunk rack, cuz I'm not giving up my HID and not spending $500 for one either.

The OEM had the same issue on my 08. Just not as bad. Then again I didn't use the radio much. I forgot to call PIAA back. I'll try again today. I had the antenna mod before. I just ordered a Metra antenna.
Brand New Metra 44-UA20 Electronic Magnetic Antenna. Going to try running it to the back and Velcro it where the XM goes. I'll let you know.

My response from PIAA about the HS1 conversion kit:

Michael,

Thank you for contacting us. The conversion kits have very high voltage from the ballast to the bulb which is what causes the interference. This kit is not made for on road use so we do not come across this issue very often. The best advice I can give you is to try an insulate the conversion wiring with wire loom. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
