Okay, I have to set the stage a little. I work with a Mr. Harley, proud of his 1996 ultra that he paid 14 grand for a few years ago, all decked out. Harley stickers, harley jackets, and always ready to talk harley. He also restores muscle cars and is really a good guy. He sits in the cube to the corner of mine and I don't ever know he's there unless he says something or I see him walk by. Another coworker and I were talking bikes and he says he had a Kaw 650 a few years ago, V-twin. I have to go off to a meeting and in the trail of the conversation he quips that his bike has more hp than a Harley. As I leave I said that Harley really doesn't have much power anyways because of engine design. As I fade around the corner, not knowing he was there, Mr. Harley says "It's not always about power...." from there I don't know what else was said as they picked up the conversation.

I guess I learned on thing, stating facts is not bashing the brand...

...and he's right, it's not always about power. Sometimes it's about...

Comfort
Reliability
Styling
Individualism (or not)
Buying American
Price / Value

Some could look at this list and decide Honda is their choice, other might decide Harley. They all have their own priorities, so whatever they choose is correct for them at that moment. Age & Experience determine the order of priorities.

good point Jeff, I think the thing is I wasn't putting down Harley, just stating the general raw facts, something Mr. Harley couldn't refute as it was not a condescending comment.

On the other hand the other coworker was stating facts to his little 650 bike generating more HP than the bigger Harley bikes. Both of them don't know what to make of me or my bike.

When I returned to my desk something spawned me to say something about Victory motorcycles (getting old and forget easy...what were we talking about...) and Mr. Harley says "yeah that's a step down." My reply was "it may be a stepdown, but I can't step off, it's that good!" He chuckles realizing I can put my money where my mouth is as he only rides maybe a handfull a days a year to keep "resale" value on his bike. And to your point...to each their own...

Common question when I stop around other riders, "why did you buy that?" 'So I won't see myself coming down the road 150 times in a mile'.

SYNSTR - 2011-03-21 1:26 PM Common question when I stop around other riders, "why did you buy that?" 'So I won't see myself coming down the road 150 times in a mile'.

VisionTex and I were riding through central Texas a couple of years ago and stopped off at Enchanted Rock State Park for a rest.  We had followed a Concours 14 riding with an '09 CVO Road Glide.  They were really good riders, riding very aggressively and we let them go on without trying to keep up.  About 10 minutes after we pulled into the park, those two guys rolled in and parked next to us.  They got off and were genuinely interested in the Visions and said they couldn't tell what we were from their mirrors. The CVO guy was an ex-sport-touring rider who changed over to the Harley after the '09 frame upgrades.  He was a really nice guy but couldn't help talking about how limited edition his bike was.  Only 3,000 CVO Road Glides and only 1,000 of them had his color scheme; orange over black with a big silver stripe splitting the two colors.

We had chatted for about 10 minutes and just as we were about to wander off to view the "rock", another bike came rumbling into the parking lot.  A young couple in their late 20's pulled up in the very next parking spot beside the CVO.  I probably don't need to tell you what it was:  '09 orange over black CVO Road Glide.  I probably looked like a trout with my mouth hanging open.  I honestly thought CVO dude #1 was going to pass out.  Dude #2 got off his bike, looked at #1 and said "Nice bike!"  It was really awkward and it was all I could do not to bust out laughing.

Dude #2 looked at the Visions and said "What are those?"  I thought I was gonna die.  It was hilarious.
