I will try to make this brief. I had a "washy" feeling and a sqeaking/chirpping sound coming from the rear. I looked under Bike and found rear Rotor Carrier Bracket loose. Took it to the Victory dealer and they put it on the rack. Found Axle Nut had backed off. Puzzled they readjusted and checked for audible sounds from rear wheel bearings. Satisfied they turned me loose NO COST ( under Warranty). A month or so later on the way back from Grand Canyon crossing New Mexico Stateline same sounds. Stopped at Welcome Center and found the Rotor Carrier Bracket loose again. A little concerned found nearest motorcycle dealer ( Desert Cycles Gallup, NM) late on Saturday afternoon. Showed them the problem and they readjusted the belt like the dealer, but noticed rear wheel loose after torqueing axle nut. Tried to make Albuquerque, NM to Rosedale Victory, but about 2miles away from shop TOTAL rear bearing failure, wheel wobble, wife's death grip and eerie frightning thoughts. Alabama is a long way from NM. Anyway Monday morning Desert Cycles took off rear wheel and there it was collapsed wheel brg. not to mention heavily scored axle. No Victory Dealer had an axle in stock ( Thanks to Mike at Arizona Victory.....checked "dealer network inventory"). U-Haul back to Bama and local victory dealer. Jaw dropping amazement......" Never had this or heard of this happening with only 17+K miles. Victory Came through in a MAJOR way all towing, rental, and expenses covered under warranty. Bike has been in shop for about 8 days now........... only disapointment ....cheap KOYO brand wheel brgs. Neoprene seals just don't hold heat/loads. Oh by the way they are common 304 2rs brgs. found at many local auto parts stores. So if you hear these sounds or feel it check it out...... P.S. Had a Fantastic trip my Victory Vision was a pleasure the whole time despite bad brgs.

Glad to hear you were well taken care of. Sucks about the bearings and being so far from home.

in a way is sucks they are cheap.but at the same time if they are commonly found that mean i could just replace them at every other tire change? right? I remember reading about victorys (not visions) having bearing issues. But this is the first vision i read about.. i remember years ago when i owned a kawasaki they were known for wheel bearing issues. so much so that someone found a aftermarket website to Heavy duty high grade bearings. and people were replacing their wheel bearing with them... Maybe its something we can look into? just a thought..

I'll look into this as I'll be rolling across the grand USA, coast to coast, the end of the month. Dealer tech said that Vic bearings rarely have problems and after 70,000 mine seem to be doing good. It is stories such as this that makes me go for overkill and replace now, but it is a cheap form of insurance, comparison since real insurance premiums have paid for all my cars and has never been used either. Thanks for bringing this up at such a timely place.

A most common mode of failure if sized right for any bearing is lack of lubrication. Some times bearing lube gets dirty and or washed out which also causes failure, so they do need to be inspected at some frequency. The service manual should state when to inspect and lube. Also, wrong belt tension may put excessive load onto the bearing, so keep that in mind.

Bearing failure on the old V92's were a common thing. I replaced them every 20,000 miles because by 30,000 the rear bearings were usually shot. (happened to me once and a friend on mine twice) Not a big deal to replace and very inexpensive. I did the same process on the wife's Kingpin and was surprised at the bearing cost. If I remember right those things were about $40 set whereas the V92's were about $8 set. I hope the Vision runs better bearings than the V92 because I'm about ready to change tires and don't intend to replace the bearings.
