Subject: Heated Jacket Plugs with Mounted Controls

This is how I installed mounted controllers for heated gear plugs on my Vision. If you ride at all in cooler weather you will absolutely love these for extending you riding season and not having to wear the controllers on your belt.

Powerlet makes the plugs, buy them direct or from Victory if you like. I haven't found anybody that offers them at a real discount. Victory provides a template for the mounting locations with their kit.

The controls can be of any brand. Whatever is offered by your jacket provider will work fine. I used the powerlet brand just because that's where I got our jacket liners. The hole size info is for the powerlet brand controllers.

I mounted the control knob right next to the plug on the dash below the radio controls where the vic template shows. The rear plug and control are essentially the same. There is plenty of room for give and take on the rear. I chose the right speaker cover just because I wanted to still have the option to mount the Comm. system on the left side as Victory has designed.

The power source is a two terminal gray plug behind the radio trim panel and the back one is behind the right speaker cover.

The mounting holes are 11/16" for the plugs and 3/8" for the control knob. A 1/8" hole is required for the indicator light. I secured the lights in place with a little clear silicone.

The only thing you have to do when wiring the controllers is the control circuit must be wired in between the plug and the supply harness. I cut the factory plugs off the controller and used spade connectors to make the connections. This allows you to unplug things if you need to get in there for service. Make sure to mark the connections for positive and negative connections. The control knobs can be mounted wherever you like, I just felt this was the most logical location.

The control boxes can be mounted out of the way with adhesive Velcro patches. I mounted the front box on the frame under the radio and the rear one on the inside wall of the rear trunk under the speaker.

Note: For those that are using the rear plug as a battery charger connection point. YOU SHOULD NOT CHARGE THROUGH THE JACKET PLUG AFTER YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE CONTROLLER. This controller acts as a variable resistor for the heated jacket and throws off the voltage reading the battery charger will see. You will have to go back to using the charger pig tail that is attached at the battery.

Below are a couple pics of my install. You should be able to open the template by clicking on the PDF file at the bottom of the page.
