Well my season is over all ready. Bike went down on 3/19 and it is totaled. Got screwed by the insurence co, just because I had 36,000 miles in 20 monthes I got hit harded then I should of because of the miles. At least they paid it off so I only loss 10 grand in 20 monthes. As for myself I was lucky, road rash on back and and side of the head (don't know why it didn't pop like a melon) and diclocated the left ankel and broke the fubula. Had to wait 18 days for swelling to go down, plate and screws to put it back together and 4 weeks before I can put any weight on it. Be carfull out there all it takes is a split second to change life forever. Just not my time.

Unless you already signed something accepting their offer, you don't have to accept the insurance companies first offer. When I was hit at a light on the VTX, the other guys insurance company offered my almost 2 grand less then I wanted. All I had to do when I protested was just submit some going prices on bikes like mine on Cycletrader & ebay. I also gave them receipts of any upgrades. They were freindly, I just had to speak up initially.

It sounds like your mellon wasn't ripe enough to pop.

I didn't take the first offer as I had friends on both sides of the fence and got some good advice.

BT666,

Would be interested in the details of the crash.  Probably a "don't let your guard down" lesson there for all of us.

I broke and dislocated my ankle about 8 yrs ago and had 2 pins put in. Long healing process, not what you want to know, but what helps and still helps me today is Shark Cartilage pills. they supposedly help with the rebuild, but are also a lubricant, all I know is that my ankle throbs when I run out and haven't taken any for a week.

Real sorry to hear about your bike, there will be others...Get well

I am so sorry to hear about your accident bt666. I hope you heal up quickly and get another Vision. I laid my Vision down last September but it is better than ever now and so am I.

I have learned through experiences of friends to pay the least amount down on a motorcycle or automobile and take out gap insurance. That way you will never be out much money if the vehicle or bike gets totaled even if it has a huge amount of mikes. Gap insurance is really cheap.

Thanks for all the well wishes.
Songfang, as far as letting my guard down, I would say just a little. Been playing it over an over in my mine and as far as I can and I was on a small sweeping curve riding the outside line of the road at bout 50 or so and it felt like my rear wheel just hopped to the right and instintely the bike went into a tank slapper and down on the left side and the floor board folded up on the left ankel, that is what dislocated and broke it, and road rashed the back of my head. Then it floped over to the right and road rashed the temple side on the right side of the head. At that point I let go and the bike started back toward the other side again and lanched upward and came down on the headlight. That first gear jacket save me also saved my left elbow and left shoulded.

dirtbag700 As far as the ankle I destroyed the right one 20 years ago and only have 50% usage of that one and that one had me layed up for 13 monthes so I am no stranger to it. In forty years of riding bound to have a few mishaps.

Rodioteacher I go back on Tues to get the stiches out and fitted with the cam boot, but still 2 more weeks no weight bearing.

Spock I put 5 grand down so I did not feel the need for the gap ins, my problem was I didn't raise the accesory part only had 1 thousand so my fault on that. I do have the gap on the car as I was upside down on that from the beginning on that one.

Jim Yes I will get back on one as soon as I am able as I got some buds that will let me use there bikes. But as far as buying that will wait till this winter when I get back to the OT at work and planning a specal xmas present to myself

Thanks again for all well wishes

BT,

Thanks for the update.  Not easy to share stuff like that.  Spock set the bar when he recounted his crash and I think it helps all of us to remember how unforgiving this lifestyle can be.  Unbelievable that it hit on both sides and then came down on the headlight.  Glad you're still around to tell about it.  Hope to ride with you someday after your are healed up.

Thanks for sharing your observations. Outside line in a curve is almost always a bad place to be, particularly at this time of year for us northern folks. Was there some reason you were riding wide?
Agree with SongFan, these individual reports are ALWAYS a good thing to help others. I truly appreciate your honesty in the appraisal of what happened as so very often folks tend to play down their individual part in helping the get-off occur. Hope you heal quickly and get a new scoot as soon as you can wrangle it. Don't you just love Xmas, lol....

If you don't mind, may I ask what type of helmet, if any, you were wearing? Open Face, Flip Up, Full Face? Would a different style have changed anything.
I ask because I wear a flip up in cooler weather but change to my open face when the weather warms. As of late I am questioning my wisdom in doing that. I don't know if getting older increases your wisdom, fear, or both. Or maybe it's that when you get closer to the end it gets more real.

Sup, hope ya straighten out and get'r fixed up, the body that is. Probably that Chicago slider burger thing I had up there that made you get all squirrely. Which insurance company?

Whew, that was a close one!
