Just have had my deflectors for a couple weeks but wonder if any others with them have experienced this....

Road for over seven hours the other day...85 and humid and all interstate speed...72mph. Riding by myself I usually get 42-43 mpg...now with the deflectors I got 37-38mpg. Cross wind/head wind not a factor.

Just wondering if the changed wind patter also putting a new wind flow on the engine has it running cooler and affecting performance? Does redirecting the air cause that much more drag?

The mpg isn't a factor for me riding...not trying to ride accross the state on two gallons of gas...just wondering?

I just did a 800 mile trip, first long trip with the deflectors on the bike. I got around 43 two up mix of highway and secondary roads. I did notice that the windshield position makes a difference. The one day when it was cold and I had everything up and out, mileage went down. Drop the windshield and the mileage goes up. My biggest mileage killer is my wrist, I tend to run the bike hard.

I put the tall Cee Baileys windshield on for late fall and early spring riding.
My gas mileage drops way off with it on.

Good point...I have the tall Cee Baileys too...by myself @ highway speed I lower it as far as I can and still stay inside the airflow bubble...I don't like my head buffeting.

I would have to agree with the earlier posts.  I didn't notice a decrease with the lowers were added.  I do notice a difference if my windshield is raised.

I cant really tell the difference with the lowers out or in, but I can physically feel the drag when I raise the windscreen.

Below is a link to my initial installation write-up on the Laminar lip. http://www.laminarlip.com/vision.php

http://www.Vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=3973&pos...

Having ridden behind it for a couple of days shy of a year I can recommend it with out reservation.

From the standpoint of aerodynamics and gas mileage the Vision gets its best results with the windscreen in the fully down position. Once you raise the shield the mechanism increases the angle of windshield at the same time; as a result it presents a much larger and significantly flatter profile to the wind. This in turn increases the drag. Add a taller shield and you're hoisting a spinnaker.

The lip allows me to keep the shield in the down position for most of my riding and reduces the effect of the wind significantly for both me and my passenger.

I also have some photos in my gallery that may show the product as it looks on the bike from a spectators point of view. Its pretty unobtrusive, less expensive than a new screen and removable, although I fail to see why one would remove it once they've experienced the benefits.
