Trying not to be a smart ar$... varing the voltage???

As in OFF and ON ?

Like a brake light.

Varying the voltage on a single filement light is the only way to make it appeared its blinking..
Do not forget your trunk lights are already on (running lights), but probably not at 12V, it could be at 10V , 8 V or even 6V. But when you come on to the brakes it would push the 12V or maybe a little bit more,so the light would appear brigther..

Usually this is being done with a 2 filement bulb,,,1 filement stay on all the time , wild the other filement will be going on and off..Blinking....

The trunk of a vision tour is wired for a single filement bulb and the Kuryakin 4710 was a fast and quick way to do this....It would of been so easy to wired the trunk with dual filement bulbs and had them working as turrn signal and brake lights , they could of done this at the assembly plant.
It would of been an added safety feature,,trunk lights are more at eye level of the driver in the fallowing car..

So this may appear as a stupid question but are the lights 12V? If they are then there should be no harm done by upping the voltage from say 8-10V.

I have no idea. I do have the controller but have not installed it yet - was planning on waiting until mid-winter...

I guess I will need to check the voltage draw before doing anything...

I called Kuryakyn when I first heard of this mod too. I wanted to make sure that it would cause no problems for the Vision. They said that it would work great on the Vision so I installed it back in February on my '08 Vision. Been working like a charm since...

Hey All, I had my Victory dealer install this same Kuryakyn set up and it doesn't work as advertised. The trunk lights do blink when I apply the brakes, but they don't blink with the turn signals. Worst part is that the Cruise Control now does not work. Victory dealer says the Kuryakyn is causing voltage problems for the Cruise so it isn't even turning on. THey can't run the diagnostics even cause the unit won't power up. They unhook the Kuryakyn and the cruise works just fine. They worked from the Kuryakyn instructions and not from the instructions on this forum. Would appreciate any help we can give my dealer. Thanks.

Do the brake lights on the lower V blink as well?

Yes, the lower V lights blink. BTW, Kuryakyn Tech Support responded to me and said they definitely DO NOT recommend the 4710 kit or any other for the Vision due to it's wiring / electrical design.

I had the same problem. Is it unique to the 09 model? There is a small build up of voltage that the controller passes through to the brake lights and they start to blink and then come on steady. Cruise thinks the brakes are on and won't engage. When we dissconnect the controller cruise works. It has been suggested that a resistor be installed to block the voltae build up. Have not gotten around to that one yet to know if it will fix the problem.

From a related thread on the THEVOG.NET. Guy had the same problem and installed 2 amp equalizers. See and read below.
My cruise was still not working. I tapped 2 - 2 amp Kurakyan load equalizers in to stop lamp wires . . . one to middle and one to lower stop lamps. Cruise is working like a champ. Make sure you tap into the right wires . . . stops, not running lamps . . . almost burned up the equalizers. Some tap these in under seat . . . I tapped in behind tail lamps into rear harness.

Looks like they hooked it up to the Lower V lights. Like the cut the wires to the lower V lights.

The way I used it and it is documented here......the lower V lights remain stock. The controller only side taps the wires to the V lights and just controls the trunk lights.

Look like the dealer was trying to reinvent the wheel.

I installed the 4710 on my 2008 Vision. I left the taillights alone, and only connected to the two trunk lights. I added two water tight quick disconnects to the existing trunk lights and ran new wire up from the controller to these points. Also I bought the Victory specific alarm harness from Scorpio. It snaps into the Victory tail light harness and gave me a point to tap into the Victory harness without crimping onto any of the Victory harness wires. If I want to remove the controller, there is no evidence it was even there. I will be wiring the Bushtec trailer wiring on the 24/25 of April (next visit to the bikes location). I will let you know how that all goes...
