I know this has been discussed here before, but is it really normal for the intake noise on a 2009 Vision to 'roar' considerably louder than the exhaust when the throttle is rolled on? Subjectively of course, mine is really loud. Being an 'audioguy' I'd just as soon it wasn't as loud, but my primary concern is that it isn't broken or leaking.

It would help if I'd heard other bikes, but since we only have 375 miles on it the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet.

Thanks,

Sounds like your exhaust needs to be louder!!! What are you running, all stock, stage one level???, Lloyd's plate, Ness Plate???

It's all stock. More noise from the exhaust would no doubt help mask it, but I'd prefer to have less noise up front with me instead.

Terrific bike all in all, but it does seem strange... The intake noise is several times louder than that of any other bike I've ridden, which covers some ground. My primary concern is to make sure there's nothing wrong. If not, it's only one frown in a hatful of smiles.

Thanks,

Hey, Audioguy, did you catch my post in the tech section "any audio techies?"?

The noise you speak of is completely normal. You have a great big honking amplifier in the way of the fairing and upper opening which magnify the throaty sound when you roll on hard. If the intake was located beside the engine you probably wouldn't hear a thing but with it directly in front you get it all. I quite frankly think its cool, lol....

Yep. I have similar interests, as I'd like to be able to interface VHF amateur (ham) equipment to the Vision's audio system. That would require tapping the mic, line out and PTT circuits, tho - quite a bit more work than what you described.

It's interesting, but since the audio system wasn't (apparently) designed to be extended, I'm hesitant for warranty reasons and because I don't have enough free time at the moment to commit to any more projects than I already have going. :-)

Do we (the global we) know who built the audio system and are they approachable? That may not be as directly appealing as a hack in some regards, but certainly less risky.

Ok, thanks. That makes me feel better.
Since I work on audio R&D during the day, I tend to look for quieter places for my hobby pursuits. (I think it's cool too, but would appreciate an 'off switch'.)

FWIW, our '05 Vette has a K&N breather on it to support some engine tweaks that require more air and it annoys me too. I suppose I want things both ways... ;-)

Thanks,

The audio system on the Vision is designed and built by Radio Sound. They are an OEM supplier and do not sell directly to the public, but their customer service was very helpful to me when my dealer was unsuccessful in diagnosing the troubles I was having with my CB. My dealer tried very hard, and did everything that Victory told them to do, but nothing worked. My dealer then told me that Victory said that I could talk directly to Radio Sound about my problem, and Victory would honor whatever Radio Sound said. The solution ended up being a replacement of both my radio and CB/Intercom which Victory paid for, under warranty. http://www.radiosound.com

Doesn't the 2010 models come with something up from or inside the intake to quiet intake noise? If so could that part be ordered and installed on earlier models?

Thanks, Ronnie.
I haven't worked with that company before, but it might be possible to get schematics from them. With a clearly-marked schematic in hand, it shouldn't be too difficult to determine what's possible.

Just took the Vision in for the 500-mile service and to have a 50-state S1L1 exhaust, the fancy tips and a heel-toe shifter put on. (unseasonably gorgeous day out, too!)

When I asked him about the intake noise, J.R. (the store owner) told me that the S1L1 exhaust kit came with something that should help quiet the intake. Perhaps it's that rubber seal I've been hearing about.

I'll be picking the bike up Saturday; we'll see on the ride home how it goes with the intake noise.

Update #2:
As far as I can tell, the S1L1 exhaust kit (whatever it contains) has all but eliminated the intake roar, at least at highway speeds. On the other hand, the new exhaust is a LOT louder than what I was expecting based on comments here, other forums and YouTube videos. Don't get me wrong - it sounds terrific - rumbly idle, deep, throaty ramp-up with a little bite, well-damped at higher frequencies. (and no, this isn't a wine review) It's just louder than I was expecting. I'm going to take it out for a bit of rural 35-50mph riding today and see how my impressions compare to yesterday's ride home on the freeway.

Also: On the way home I idled through a 'Hogs and Dogs' that was just breaking up at a local bike shop. My cover story is that I was looking for a buddy, (he wasn't there) but I suspect my real motive was to cause trouble... In any case I was surprised that I got as many smiles as scowls. Maybe there's hope for HD riders yet. :-)

In Australia Harley riders rarely wave or associate with other brands
the victory has them confused it sounds right it's a v twin and it's made in USA
I parked near a group of outlaw bikers and one came over ( I thought oh no) but he said the vv looked cool like a Cadillac
he asked if it's was good I replied very good he grunted and went back to his gang they did a bit of yanking
when I ride my BMW I don't exist. Very shallow!
Hopefully victory people will remain freindly and appreciate it's not what you ride it the fact you ride
