| While fueling I stood too close to the exhaust and left an ugly layer of black nylon on the chrome. I thought I remember a post about spraying oven cleaner on the cremains, letting it sit overnight, then wiping it nice and clean in the morning. Is this sound like something anyone remembers?? Thanks.

| That has been posted but make sure to mask off the area so no oven cleaner gets any painted surface.
I have taken thick pieces of melted boot and shaved it off with a razor. Then wore myself out using chrome cleaner.
Another thought, use a heat gun to make it soft and use the razor? Just thought heat gun or exhaust the chrome doesn't know the difference. I have not tried this so you will be the guinea pig. O.o

| Carb cleaner has worked for me in the past. If the pipes are warm, that helps. |

| Easy off Oven Cleaner and a rag to wipe it off. As mentioned do NOT get any on your paint. You also do not want to use anything that might scratch the chrome aka metal blades, wooden sticks, steel wool. Just easy off and a good stout rag. |

| There is a product called flitz that I have used in the past to get boot mark off the exhaust in the past. You have to applie it when the pipes are hot and it will remove anything off of your pipes safely. |

L.I., N.Y. | Definitely be careful and not outside with a breeze. I had the misfortune of overspray hit the engine. UGHHH, when I do the cams and exhaust I'll get in there and fix it. I just got my bike back after a 2 1/2 month accident repair.

Brighton, TN | I have used 0000 steel wool and the spray detailer from any of the name brands, Meguiars, or the Victory detailer. That has been the easiest I have found. Absolutely no effort, and the chrome is still shiny and no scratches. I have taken boot rubber, nylon, and some other black dots that I couldn't just rub off. I love this method. No worries about oven cleaner or other harsh chemicals. |

Houston, Texas | Flitz has worked for me.....a little elbow grease and it come right off......had a lady friend that always managed to get to close and melt something on the pipes.....Flitz to the rescue

I believe he used Pure Victory Liquid Spray Wax. First spray some on the wound.
Now, is there is encrusted nylon on pipes... take a NEW razor blade and just lay it on the pipe almost flat, NOT on the edge, and just GENTLY slide it. NO PRESSURE AT ALL... It may catch a piece of nylon (that's the idea)... and it will just pop it off. If it doesn't catch, just be patient and try again... DO NOT APPLY ANY PRESSURE. The weight of the naked blade is enough... trust me. Just glide it over the nylon a couple of times until it's caught all the chunks.
Then soak some 0000 steel wool in the Pure Victory Liquid Spray Wax. In this case... ALMOST NO PRESSURE... Just enough to guide it really.
That's all it takes..

Dallas, Texas | Warmed pipes, Easy Off blue can, and let sit for about 10-15 mins, then use 0000 steel wool. Make sure not to get the Easy Off on anything you don't want it to. I used cardboard pieces cut to the shapes I needed, to cover un-intended parts. Thick spots may require an additional round. Then follow up with Never Dull. You'll never know it was there.

| I took ideas from the different posts and sprayed carb cleaner into a cotton ball, dabbed it on the cremains, then used a razor blade. It came right off and the chrome is again shining in the sun. Thanks everyone for your help!

Princeton, MN | Thanks for the ideas!! Did the Flitz on melted nylon also,,,cold it wouldnt come off,,,drove it to get good and hot and it boiled as I rubbed but in 2 minutes all was gone! THANKS! |

| Here is what you do and you won't spend any money or scratch your chrome. Get your pipes HOT and then get a handfull of aluminum foil and rub the crap off your pipes. It takes about one minute and it works GREAT. No fuss, no muss. I had burned my rainsuit pants on pipes. Give it a try.....IT WORKS |
