Curious on approximately how many miles you can go. I'm at work now, and light just came on. I have about 35 miles to go if I want to (chance) it.

let us know if you make it, then we'll all know!

I usually find a gas station right away, and will put in about 5 gals min at when the light comes on.

THIS is THE question!

While riding back from Vegas to Denver, I ran the bike hard up into the hills. So hard in fact that I literally barely made my first fuel stop. In fact, I slowed down to 55 on a 70 mph highway to conserve as much fuel as possible. The light came on about 28 miles from the NEXT gas station. I was FREAKING out! I was thinking each time I passed a mile marker of how I would handle the situation IF I had to deal with no gas.

As I passed the last mile marker I thought, "well, at least I can walk this one both ways. But DAMN, that will add about an hour to my ride home". LOL

So, I KNOW you can get 28, but I was on FUMES. I put in just at 5.9 gallons. I didn't think you could actually run it that low...but apparently you can!

If it were me, I would run it NO more than 25 miles and I consider 20 pushing it even though there is a gallon left.

without telling any stories, a rarity for me, I've put in at the most 5.7

I trust my fuel mileage thingy after that. For me it translates this way, if my average mpg is 38 then when the light comes on, I've got that many miles before chugging out. But I will only tempt it to 30, as I did that day without a choice.

When the low fuel light comes on, click through the LED displays to the "Range" readout and watch the mileage click down. Caution, you will be hypnotized.

Hey sf, yours might be different than mine, at the light, all the range will say is "low fuel".
All other reading will display momentarily then it will move to the range selection and say "low fuel".

If you mileage computer is inaccurate as mine, you will be more than hypnotized, you will be standing on the side of the road!

Now that I think about it I guess you are right. The only time I got into a low fuel situation was with the GPS mounted and I watched the mileage to the gas station click down on the GPS. I think it was around 20-25 miles. I never let my fuel get that low but my planned stop that day turned out to be a gas station that was listed on the GPS but had closed down. I don't remember anything about the road except the next off-ramp/gas was over 20 miles away.

With my tank totally topped off, the needle on the guage barely taps the "Full" bar. I was hoping that the needle was slewed to the low side so I could actually go the bottom of empty and still have gas. It never flamed out and I think I put about 5.6 in it. That was a looooooong 20-25minutes.

My experience is that my Vision will go as far as the next gas station when the warning appears. Hope this helps.

When my fuel light goes off, I figure I have one gallon left. The bike gets about 40 miles per gallon. The farthest I've pushed it is 22-25 miles. When I fill up, I put 5.6-5.8 gallons in. Do the math, and I'm about 8-16 miles from running out of gas. I think the golden rule is when the light goes on, you have one gallon left, look at your average miles per gallon and that should be pretty accurate as to how far you could push it.

I ran into the same situation on my ride from Rapid City, SD to Daytona this year. I was freaking out big time. I also slowed down considerably to nurse it to a station. If memory serves me I think I put in 5.9 gallons. I was so happy when I found that station.

You'd think I learned my lesson but I just pulled the same thing in my van. I was driving back from Idaho and ran the van down to 0 miles left to empty. I had my wife and 4 kids in the van and I was SO SO LUCKY because the wife suggested we fill up before hitting the highway. Next time I'l listen.

The approximate miles will be the number of miles your motorcycle gets per gallon of gasoline as that is the approximate amount of gasoline in the motorcyles tank when the light comes on as per the motorcyle manual. After that is it the number of miles you can push it.

If you keep pushing the button after it goes to low fuel, it will read miles to go briefly before it goes back to the low fuel display. Most gas I have put in mine was 6.1 (after a lot of shaking & facing sightly downhill). On long trips in unknown places, a gallon gas can does fit in the saddle bag. ET

PS: It was not runninng when I filled up and I had to cut the switch on to refill the lines.

Mine comes on with 1 and 1/2 gallons left in the tank. If I'm getting 40 MPG or better, which is normal, then I can go at least another 50 miles after the light comes on.

We came back from Arkansas on Monday and had the low fuel light come on. We were sweating it because it was on a stretch of highway that seemed to be a fuel desert. Anyway, when we fueled up it took 5.6 gal and when I checked the range indicator it said we had 14 miles left. That was riding two up and loaded.

I have personally confirmed that my tank will in fact hold 6 gallons. Found this out by running out of gas about 1/4 mile or so from a station. But I didn't have to push the bike though....I dismounted and set it on the right side tipovers for a few moments and then stood it back up and hit the start button and to my surprise....the bike started !! I was able to get to the station, but it was sputtering again as I pulled up to the pump. Put in exactly 6 gallons.

I can also confirm that the bike will go at least another 35+ miles after the low fuel light comes on. I do it all the time. I've put in 5.5 or more gallons in many many times. Heck, I think I've gone over 50 miles a few times. I really need to quit pushing my luck though, would really hate to have to push my Vision for any type of distance, kinda wonder if I even could push it more than a block.

Also, running out of gas is not good for the fuel pump.

I live exactly 25 miles from work. 20 miles are interstate. I have left the garage with the low fuel indicator on and made it back home without refueling. The indicator would turn off when I leaned hard in a turn going to work. On the way home the indicator was always on. I could see the gauge needle move while going around turns though. That told me there was some fuel left in there swishing around so I wasn't too worried. So, I know I can go 50 miles when the indicator first comes on.

I went a little over 40 miles with the light on ONCE. Whe I put the bike on the kick stand it died. Took 5.96 gallons. I start looking as soon as the light comes on now. Plus I hate the fact the low fuel message hijacks the display.

This past weekend I did 30 miles after the light went on, and then put 5.9 gal in.

Clear as mud.

30 not a problem.
40 probably OK
50 sweat should be developing on the brow.
60 you better be riding side-saddle with the bike laid over on those wheels attached to the right tipovers. Anyone have a set of plans for these?

With colder temps I wouldn't push it over 25 miles. Besides don't like riding her down that low, but thats just me. You'd probably make the 35 miles home.
