I am busy saving $$$ for a Russell Day-Long seat for my 2008 Vision. I tried the beads, sheapskin/gel pad combo, and the Airhawk. None work any better then the OEM seat on my big 280 pound ass. I can get to about 100 miles in the saddle, but I'm in some pain to get there.

That being said, I had a RDL seat built for my BMW and loved it. I called RDL last month and they said they had not done a Vision seat as of yet. I know several members here have gone to the Corbin seat. Is anyone else considering a Russell Day-Long?

Never heard of them to you pointed it out. I'll give them a try. I just need to confirm (it may be on their website and I just didn't see it) that my heated seats will work normally. I have the buttbuffer pads now for all-day rides, but having this on top doesn't look the best and I lost my heated seats.

It may not work for everybody but when I had my Goldwing, I had it covered in leather and shaped to suit me better. The good thing is that it turned out to be money very well spent. Vinyl seats make me sweat too much but the Vision seat is much more comfortable so I tolerated it better than I did on the Goldwing. Leather will allow the seat to maintain the shape as vinyl stretches as it get hot. Also there is breathability in leather so the sweating is not as bad. Also the leather is much more durable than the vinyl, at least in my opinion. After 50,000 (s)miles I'm get stress tears in my seat and will have to do something soon.

My suggestion is to find a good seat upholsterer and have your seat shaped and redone in leather. You'll probably make out cheaper, have a custom seat and still heated if you have that option.

I'm not sure I understand the nature of your problem. Is the seat uncomfortable? Or is the discomfort the result of sweating/heat?
Here is something you need to consider; The more you ride the better you become in the saddle, BUT if you start off uncomfy you will remain that way. So if it sweating/heat there is a fix, Goat skin!!!!!!!!!! a good genuine goat skin. There are several places online who sell them, but make sure it is REAL goat skin.
Now if you are just plain uncomfy with the seat you need to find someone who specializes in bike seats and have the seat fitted to your butt and ride position. In the long run it is MUCH cheaper and ar more effective than seat replacement.
At the end of the day your butt becomes conditioned to the saddle. So if you only ride mileage occasionally no seat is going to eliminate all the pain. Besides you should be out of the saddle every 100 anyhow to take a pee. If you don't need to stop for a pee at 100 miles you aren't properly hydrated and need to stop for a drink anyhow.

I am considering a Russel, I think the Vision seat is very uncomfortable. I put many long days on my Vegas, it was not a great seat and I complained about it but the Vision seat is much worse IMHO; I did do an iron butt on the Vegas, would not want to do one on the stock Vision seat. I have the bead rider on there for now and it is not better comfort wise but sweating has been eliminated for the most part with the beads. I feel like all the pressure is on about a 3" area in the center of the seat, the sides of the seat do not provide any support. I have thought about having the center of the seat shaved down and see if it would be sufficient before dropping the cash on the Russel.

I've had Russell's on two previous bikes out of necessity.  They are fantastic.  The stock Vision seat is adequate for now but when it breaks down I'll probably go Russell again.  I'd like to sit an inch or two farther back and they put the bucket exactly where you want it.  Their foam padding feels more robust (they build it according to your weight) and fits my butt/legs better.  The Vision seat is the best stock seat I've ever sat on but the Russells are unbeatable in the comfort department and are truly a custom fit.

I'll probably buy a used stock seat so I won't be off the Vision while it's is being built.  I'm holding off on a backrest until the Russell is installed.

I had pressure points with the stock seat - better than any other I had ever used, but still there. I had a shop repalce the seating area with medical grade memory foam used in wheelchair seating - think about 16 hours a day, every day, in a seat. About $200 for the parts and labor and now the best seat ever, with no pressure points due to the way memory foam distributes weight compared to regular foam.

AND, they offered to make a custom leather cover while it was apart for $250 more, any color(s).

Proviso - I don't have seat heaters so I don't know how that would be affected. I can add seat heaters for about $200 but the memory foam is a much better insulator so I have had no problems last winter down to 20 degrees. A little warmer in summertime but a sheepskin cures that and is essential at over 105, esp. if it's been sitting in the sun all day.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Russell Day Long seats, though I've never sat on one. I'm pretty pleased with the stock seat on my Vision and have several 2000 mile round trips on it. But, if I were considering a custom seat, Russell is the first I'd think about. The only knock (if it is a knock) I've ever heard about them is that they build it to your personal butt-spec (new word). That means the seat generally does not look like OEM or even OEM replacement and some few have had minor complaints that the seat looked like an obvious add-on. Unless it was downright unattractive, I'd go with my butt versus the cosmetics. Good luck with it and definitely post those pics. I'd love to see how one looks on a Vision!
