Maybe nothing serious, but enough to aggrevate. I changed my air filter about 2 weeks ago and have no exhaust leaks that I know of. Pulled the plugs about three weeks ago, they looked good and I re-gapped them.

The cooler temps seem to have brought on a rolling pop lately and my thought is maybe I need to change the fuel filter.

It actually stalled on a slow take off acceleration and took a few hits on the starter to refire. That I didn't like as I was coasting down the road with a line of cars getting ready to take off from a red light.

It's not popping from the start of the twist of the throttle, but after it has began to gain rpms below 2,000.

I still rides great down the road full throttle and I have no problems on load. It is just that lower rpm's at take off, rolling the throttle.

any suggestion will be welcome!

I'm getting a fuel filter tomorrow and switching that out, still has the original...

Easiest potential solutions first. Try new plugs and make sure the plug wires are firmly snapped onto the plugs. You sound sure about the exhaust leaks, but I was getting some popping and had my mechanic check the other day when the bike was in for service. The rear exhaust gasket was almost completly soot covered, indicating a bad leak, and the front showed a moderate leak with another small one working it's way up to the outside edge of the gasket. I had him replace the gaskets with the older, woven metal ones and 90% of the popping has been eliminated. Try looking for black soot around the exhaust flanges and pipe joints with a flashlight and using a clean white rag in those areas to see if it picks up any soot.

great idea mudge on checking for the exhaust leak. Since I cleaned up and replaced them I've been checking the flange nuts and everytime they've been tight. Interesting in that new from the factory I had to constantly tighten them. I replace the gaskets and tighten them down and they've not back off none. I didn't even use loctite.

I thought about the plugs also since they are 10,000 miles in use and it seems they take a beating too. being my first V-twin I expected a lot more replacement in oil and plugs... and tires. 4,000 away from putting on another rear...

Just FYI, the flange nuts on mine were very tight, probably tighter than spec, and they were still leaking. the rear one very badly. Also, the joints, especially of the crossover pipe, somtimes leak.

sorry varyder no suggestions except yours and the plugs. Are you sure you got the air filter seated properly? Cooler temps outside will lean her up a little.

Thanks Jeff. I'm going to change the fuel filter and plugs today. the funny thing is that this morning it didn't even pop or gaggle once. nothing different and it was in the low 50's. since the cooler temps i start and let the bike warm up about 3 minutes or more. in the hotter temps it's more like a minute or so. when the popping start i thought it was from letting it idle too long, but this morning...nada...

oh, and kevin, i never said anything about A mechanic, it was a general reference to mechanics, the process, not a person...

changed the plugs today and it seems to be running better, actually smoother. It was running a little rough on throttle. I didn't get my fuel filter as planned as Catlin's is closed Friday and Saturday for Victober fest. Oh well, maybe Tuesday if I have a chance...
